How to make gold eagles proofs worth scrap value...

PhillyJoePhillyJoe Posts: 2,700 ✭✭✭✭
Just when you think you've seen it all; now you can buy PCGS graded $50 Gold Eagles with Donald Trump's signature. Not sure if this is part of the American Heroes series or is sponsored by the Hair Club for Men. Sad way to sell beautiful coins. A picture of the actual slab would have been a nice touch for that kind of money. Excuse me while I lose my breakfast.......

If there was an award for "overrated tycoon" Donald Trump would be the prime candidate. I'm old enough to remember when "The Donald" had his first financial problems, which forced him to cut back to ONE yacht and only few hundred grand a week for spending money.

As a human being I'd want to stay as far away from Trump and his kind as possible. I've had some limited experience with temperamental hard to please people like him, and it’s not the way I’d like to earn a living or spend my life. The man is mean and nasty, and he’s not nearly as good at finance as he thinks he is.

He's pretty good at PR, publicity and self-promotion however...image

Trump's casino business is in financial trouble. It's going into Chapter 11.

The investors who got involved with him are getting nailed. He's going to probably emerge with mostly a bruised ego

His riverboat Casinos here in Illinois are failing. Not surprising - they're scum-holes and draw the scummiest people. I'll be glad to see them go (hopefully soon).

Yea, that's the point that people here in the east make about his casinos. The "Trump" name implies "class" to some people, but critics say that Trump casinos look like schlock. image

Maybe this is Trump’s personal collection!

How embarrassing must it be to have bankrupt peoples signatures on your coin slabs, maybe Martha Stuart will be next. How many times has Mr. Trump gone bankrupt counting this announcement yesterday?

How can you have a T.V. show called the apprentice where the owner of the business has conned millions of dollars out of people, and goes bankrupt every few years, only in NYC.

So that's the latest from folkartnut. I bet they still have some of those Ford slabs laying around.

Whatever the appeal to own coins that are packaged with an autograph of someone who has nothing to do with the coins, it escapes me.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, here's why I don't like people like the Donald. He has mastered the art of OPM - using Other People's Money. It cost $1 BILLION dollars to build the Taj in Atlantic City. He was only able to borrow $500 million. Every contractor on the East coast bid on that job whether it was for a million sq. ft of carpeting or 10,000 dinner napkins. One order from Trump can make your whole year and profit margins became very thin in order to win the bid. Time comes to pay the bills and Trump says I only have $500 million. Unforeseen cost overruns, no doubt. He was willing to pay 50 cents on the dollar on everything. If the contractors balked, Trump would declare bankruptcy, the secured lenders would get their money and the unsecured contractors would get zilch, zippo, nada. Many of the contractors took the 50 cents deal, and unable to pay THEIR suppliers, went out of business. Trump gets a $1 billion dollar casino for half price.

There are givers and there are takers.

I feel special--I guessed Folkartnut before clicking the link image

It's nice to see he's back at selling that overrated, overpriced crap. For $150k, you think he could photo the right coin?

Great, when gold exceeds $1500 an ounce, these things are going to seem like a steal.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention that the autograph, description on the slab, and the COA looks alot like Gerald Ford.
