Hi all,
this is the result of an evenings work with my Epson 2450 Scanner after a day of reading posts, websites and trial and error tilting slabs etc. Scans are 1200 DPI, and I experimented with gamma and exposure to get the most accurate results regarding color and luster. I am really pleased - I got the irridescent colors on the Seated, the Cameo contrast and gold on the Barber, the brilliance, lime green and purple tone on the Winged Liberty and the sharp satin finish on the Roosevelt. This is, finally, what my little 10c type set really looks like. Please let me know what you think - I am aware of the hotspots on the Merc but could get rid of them....yet. Comments welcome! Thanks for looking!

<< <i>If you did those with a scanner, I would say you did very well. About the best you can expect from a scanner. >>
Hi,
thanks for the kind comments! Yes, I did them with an Epson 2450 photo/slide flatbed scanner. After experimenting I found the optimum gamma and exposure for this set-up, which involves such exotic equipage as a black t-shirt and 3 cardboard Kodachrome 35mm mounts. Once I found the best settings, I locked them in and scanned all the coins in the same way. I also used the same locked in edit tools for minor correction. I am happy with the results - I feel they really do the coins justice.
Thanks for looking!

I will take that as a compliment I thank you! I am no photographer, and someone said I'd be wasting my time so I decided to try it. The scanner is a pretty good one - made for scanning color and b/w transparencies, 35mm slides and b/w and color negatives (which it develops), as well as regular color & b/w prints. I use it for scanning my collection of unpublished color slides from the 1939/40 New York World's Fair. I think I paid about $700 for the scanner if I recall - you can find out online I guess. The model is "Epson Perfection 2450 Photo". I am kind of surprised at how they came out too. I only really spent a few hours in all. Once I found the "correct" gamma and exposure the scans made themselves. Really a minimum of edit work. And, I love the way my little set looks!
Thanks again

Great scans. Getting a good coin pic from a scanner it tough. I know, I've tried and gave up.

<< <i>Great pictures--I think there's a bit of excess blue, though. For a scanner, best I've seen!

Hi Jeremy,
yes, there is a bit of blue bouncing around - I think it is reflected light. Other than manually removing it I think I will have to live with it until I can work around it. It may be a drawback of the scanner. - I don't know. Thanks!
Best,
Billy
