Great looking example. Reverse appears to be cameo, with the obverse coming very close. I little dippage to clean up the mirrors, and it just might be there.

  • I'm praying so Russ... I'm praying so... image PCGS or NGC for this one?

  • Dip it first and show a pic before you start thinking which service. Don't jump the gun.

That depends on your plans for the coin. If you intend to sell it, PCGS would be the best option as these bring substantially more in their holder. If not selling, doesn't really matter. NGC is damned tough on these right now, so it's likely to grade the same at either service.

I think it will clean up very nice!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

personally i wouldnt dip it in anything but acetone.
non-silver coins usually turn ugly as hell when dipped in jewelluster/eZest, ms70 and the like.
and fingerprints can always show up from the acid dip.

the coin looks fairly late die state. not sure how older dies play into the grading equation
    but...it couldnt help i,d think.

Give the coin a bath and post a second picture. Hopefully once the haze is gone you will have nice contrasdt between the devices and mirrors. The reverse would make cameo. The obverse may or may not make cameo. From your picture it appears that the bust may have some patchs that lack frost. Nice coin in any event. Kudos on your purchase.
  • Nice coin and photos.

It will be interesting to see your before and after, so definately post an update!

Acetone will not remove the haze.

The outer layer of the coin is 80% silver. It'll dip just fine.

Don's a good man, and is experienced and skilled. Just don't let it anywhere near Marty. He's an SMS vacuum cleaner.
