Manofcoins (ol boy) Is The Man! Grade This Pocket Change *Grade Posted*

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
As some of you know I've been looking for nicely toned coins from 1955. Board member Manofcoins came up with this one for me.
Very tough year to find them like this.
Of course I payed him as well in a very smooth transaction. Your thoughts on the coin and grade?

    i bought a wonderful white `55 D recently that is a stunner..at first glance....got it home and
then noticed a nice hit on the eagles breast. oh well.
    its a killer 64 i guess. image

One hit on the breast knocks it down to 64? I don't have the one I posted in front of me, but I believe it has a hit on the eagles breast.

A couple on the face too. Want to change your guess? image

Candidate for MS67, but MS66 on a bad day. I'd be surprised if NGC gave it the STAR not so much because it isn't worthy, but instead because of NGC loose, internal policy of not awarding darkly toned coins the STAR.

I can't tell much about grade from the pics, but it wouldn't matter much. I really like the look of the coin.

Wow that is indeed a nice find. I agree with the census....with what I can see the coin looks like an easy MS66 candidate and the eye appeal will go far beyound the grade image

    Beautiful! That's a keeper!
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Pocket change, I've never found any like that in my change. I would say 65/66. The obverse looks 66, but the reverse looks like a 65 with the contact mark. With that color though I'll say 66.

Common colors for a 55 mint set, especially the p-mint silver coins.

The coin looks both natural and attractive.

This comment is aimed at several posters, rather than at just one or two in particular - the jokes (about a serious issue) are getting old and are in poor tatse.

Why not? He's a proven and admitted coin doctor. I'd feel much safer in assuming coins from him are AT then assuming they're not. Of course I understand how it works in here many times. The "It's all AT unless it's my coin, if it's mine then it's NT for sure." attitude prevails quite often.

MOC is scum and a dredge to the hobby. All coins coming from him deserve a very hard and scrutinizing second look.

Perhaps so, but that is not the same as "assume every coin he touched as now suddenly AT". Additionally, making such assumptions is probably no wiser than failing to take a second look.

I've had my say in all the previous threads about Manofcoins. In fact I recently pointed out the fact that the thing that bothered me most.....
was the fact he put a BST with a link to the recent fiasco. He invited all his friends that trusted him most to try and boink them.

That said...... Want a story? OK here it goesimage this thread is two years old, he bought this coin on ebay at the time and later sold it to me for what he paid. He provided a link to show me this which wasn't necessary. I say this because I had already checked.image I seen nothing wrong (with the coin) at the time and still don't, as many others have pointed out. I'm surprised the image is still here.... but I'm kinda glad, as it speaks for itself. Except the coin has very nice luster not showing.

Sincerely stman (always calls them as he sees them.)
