sample slabs

Stupid question...
Do the collectors of sample slabs prefer collecting only the big guys, or will they collect anything that says "sample" on it?
For example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41089&item=3925062515&rd=1

That's *exactly* what I was thinking.
It is a unique piece though.. It doesn't say MS70 on it.

Looking for 1967 PCGS/NGC slabbed coins.
Some of the sample slabs that have brought the highest prices are from companies that are out of business.

So they are not just for ebay sales . . . so there!

evolve into? If they're pesky enough, they may just persist and these will become
know as the early "primitve" samples from the King of grading services.

<< <i>I collect legitimate sample slabs and not ones that are only made just for re-sale on ebay. They have to be given away for free and the intent of this company is wrong. They are trying to monopolize on the sample market and I'm not going to help them or bid on these so called samples.

I love the subtitle: <<SGS SAMPLE SLAB! WITH PURPOSE!>> They musta put that in just after you posted.
I have no intention of getting one of theirs. They are nothing but ripoff artists that are lower than ACG!!
I do have an SGS sample, but it is from Strategic Grading Service and was made in 1995.
If so can you get me a picture of the back of the slab (And a better one of the front too if possible)
<< <i>That's right! Here is your chance to pick up a Sample Slab, AND give a company Feedback on the Slab and proposed Changes!! >>
What could those changes be? Take the daring step down to giving coins the MS68 grade?
It is my understanding that this company did send out a few samples for free including myself.
It is the same exact one shown below which I will display the image without needing to click on the link.
My opinion. Legitimate sample. But we are witnessing the next evolution of sample slabs in which the maker or the samples are observing the aftermarket of sample slabs with much interest.
I've heard of the ACC samples but haven't seen any. If you have extras I'd be interested in one. If not I'd still like a picture (with rights of course).
Conder101: I just e-mailed hi-res scans of a few samples you will want to use including the old SGS back as you requested.

In fact, whoever won that sample slab might have a famous slab in which it might have been the first sample slab sold by the sample slab maker?

That would be me.

Edited to correct the date of the Jefferson "Peace" nickel.
And yes I was watching the Compugrade sample but since I already have one it was just out of curiousity to see what it would go for. I dont think $241 is a new record for a Sample slab but i believe it is close.
<< <i>Since we are on the topic. You guys watching this sample?
WOW!
Cameron Kiefer >>
Yep, it's being watched!!
<< <i>I dont think $241 is a new record for a Sample slab but i believe it is close. >>
The record price is $265 for a PCGS 8.1
Second lower price is $250 for a Hallmark 1
Congrats on the purchase roger! This could easily be a $500 sample within 10 years.

I'm trying to corner the market on them, that makes 3 of them!!

<< <i>Have any of you sample slab collectors been able to buy a 2005 nickel in a "PGS" sample slab? Every dealer exhibiting at the MidAmerica show in Rosemont, IL in late June received one for free. No dealer would sell one to me, though. >>
I think the folks at the Mint and Secret Service would be VERY interested in these 2005 samples . . . yes, VERY interested.

I bought the first 'new' (purposeful) SGS slab on Ebay more for novelty purposes than anything else. They probably won't like my survey results, though.
