1948 Hewitt Bros. Buy Prices

I came across these buy catalog's quite a few years ago and was always intrigued with what some dealers were offering for coins back in 1948. I don't know how common the catalogs are, but for those of you who have not seen them before or who have not had a chance to experience the coin market of 1948 (that includes me)......I thought posting a few pages might be interesting and provide a glimpse back into the year 1948.

Hopefully this will be one of the small ways I can contribute to the vast coin knowledge on these boards image

If there are any pages I did not scan that you would like to see, let me know and I'll scan it and post it here.

I see they were only paying face value for 1956 Lincolns.

  • That would be interesting wouldn't it.....they bought coins before being released imageimageimage

The copyright states 1948......never looked to see what coins they were buying.........I would guess that they didn't update there buy prices very often huh image

So it looks like this must have been reprinted a few times as I would hope they weren't buying coins of the current year???? The dates end at 1956, but that still doesn't make much sense????

I think its a redbook made into a buy price list or some type of copy of a redbook. aslo, I have seen many books retain the original copyright date even though they are printed some years later in newer editions.

    I love it.

2 cents for a 1926-S Lincoln, $10 for a 1909-S VDB and 1914-D Lincoln, $500 for the one of the four known 1793 cents with strawberry sprig.

    The insanity continues!

    Very Cool. Thanks for sharing.
  • imageTextI have my grandfathers 1928 Coin Buyers Guide around here somewhere. They are very interesting. He got me started collecting and at one time he had a 1856 Flying Eagle Cent.
