My 5,000th post with **The CU Forum Tribute Awards**

After joining 2 years ago and reaching my 5,000th post I wanted to post a thank you to all the members here for sharing information and their insight into the hobby.

Since I’m too cheap to give away a coin, I am giving away the CU Forum Tribute Awards. The recipients receive nothing (except my respect).

So in Registry style the 2004 awards are listed below.

It turned out that 5th place had more people tied than the Statehood Quarter Proof Registry Sets, so I won’t list them all (but you know who you are)

The 2004 Forum Tribute Awards

#1 dorkkarl image For his philosophy about personal responsibility and collectors learning to grade for themselves. He is a numismatic purist.

#2 BillJones For his knowledge about a wide variety of coins from both a dealer and collectors view he contributes much with his informative posts

#3 coinguy1 For his great coin photo threads where he tries to inform and entertain and his willingness to help others out.

#4 Legend For her knowledge, opinions and hardheadedness but also gives good insight into the coin market (when she’s not complaining)

#5 A 500-way tie for 5th Too numerous to mention

The Chucklehead Awards

There are a number of chuckleheads that have passed through from time to time (and some are still here) but these were some of my favorite threads

#1 The “Done Deal”
The story about a guy who wanted to be a coin dealer and bought a $30,000 coin from a dealer, but then came to this forum to complain that he didn’t know what he was doing and wanted his money back. The original poster had come here to bash the dealer, but then the dealer showed up to tell the rest of the story. Since the guy represented himself as a dealer and they agreed they had a done deal, the dealer bought another coin on memo to replace his inventory with the $30,000.

#2 It’s not a DCAM
A buyer complained a dealer on eBay wouldn’t take a return on a coin. But the reason he wanted to return it was because it’s not a DCAM. It was a Franklin proof that had a few thousand dollar difference in price between CAM and DCAM and was in a PCGS PR??CAM holder. When a link to the auction was provided, the seller stated he thought it was a DCAM but that he had tried 3 times to upgrade it to a DCAM and every time it came back as a CAM. So the buyer pays about double its value assuming that when he submits it, it will come back as a DCAM and he’ll make a nice profit. But then he wants to return it because it’s not a DCAM in a PCGS CAM holder like he wanted it to be.

Honorable Mention
The Clankeye tale of the Search for the Jade Coin on the S.S. POS. A great satire that pegged the players to a tee.

Anyway, thanks for everyone here who shares their knowledge and insights into the hobby.
