  • Atarian, no one can help because you only hear what you want to hear. Many here have tried to give you good advice but you dont hear it. There is no way anyone can give you an opinion on your current question without knowing the exact dates, grades, grading service and so on for the general list you gave. Unfortunately, I feel that you are one of them that is only going to learn the hard way. Sorry if this upsets you, but dont know how else to get through to you.

Be careful and take your time,

Granddad, I have to agree ... too bad also ... seemed like a nice kid. I had about 10 PM's with him one night, very excitable newbie, but I though he seemed nice enough and was going to sell him a few nice EF-AU Indians from my stash. He flaked out I think (never heard back). I guess he changed his mind on what he wanted to buy.

“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

75% of PCGS guide price is no great deal.
  • In many cases,75 % of the PCGS price guide is waaay too much !
my 57 Proof coins were bought for 15-30% of the PCGS price in NGC holders !
sure, everybody hates me and my coins, but im not blind,i like my coins and i think they will hold theyre own against PCGS coins anyday.

When you want a coin or coins, you need to be patient. Serious Coin Collectors don't send an e-mail/PM at 9:36 pm and expect a coin that night. Most collectors spend weeks or months looking for a coin they desire. Sending a PM at 9-10 pm doesn't give people time to find you a coin if they aren't in stock. I sent you Steve Ellsworth's (Butternut) name and e-mail address, who deals exclusively in early copper and even sent Steve an e-mail. He was more than willing to help you find the coin you wanted, but evidently you weren't willing to work with him. I am offended personally that you would title a thread: "I think i found someone whos willing to sell me a coin" Please DO NOT waste my time again! And I'd recommend to other dealers not to let you waste their time.

The negative has nothing ZERO to do with the coins! Everything has to do with your impatience and immaturity. You ask for help, then refuse to listen to anybody who tries to help you and then go from one certified type coin to 20 certified moderns. My advice to you is: "If you have committed to a deal with this dealer, go through with it." Why have another dealer ready to rip your head off for your immaturity? Your threads from the past show all of us you don't want help. Please don't ask for help when you don't want it.

im 21, but i dont have the patience that i need to hold on a good coin. i need to learn to not rush into things. i just cant see how i can save 800$ for a coin like i truely want. ( i can save 200 or so and then i feel an urge to spend so i need to learn to save and NOT spend. ) which im sure ill learn over time. and maybe this will be a lesson in that.

in my other collection there has never been a time where i needed to save large sums of money. everything is priced low and many times you dont need to hunt like you with coins. im sorry to those who i offended

  • Atarian. A few nights ago you were 16 or 17 and making $100 a week delivering newspapers(now you are 21). This made people respect you and want to help you out. But you have insisted upon being a royal pain and most everyone is getting a little annoyed.

i never claimed iwas 16 or 17 . nor did i ever claim that i was making 100 a week.delievering papers. i end up making about 100 a week at rite aid during my school sessions ( thus my rite aid finds i list). and in the summers i make about 250 to 300 every week. but i didnt want to cause people annoyance. or be a pain in the butt or anything. but i wont ask for help again. ill just maintain my old status on this site posting to posts and wont bring up anything i get again. or ask for advice. that way i do all a favor. i still hope to learn from you people things that i can use in my own collection ( including paitnece

Louis, you are mixing up the youngsters.

I don't think atarian ever did state that...but, dennis88 (from the netherlands) did.

From what I have seen from a lot of the active youngsters posting....they are excitable. Few mean malice, but a lot haven't had all the opportunities to mature that many have.
I don't fault atarian for his exhuberance, and, I think some of you forget what it is like to be young and excited and have limited means.

While, I would feel toyed a tad, if I were in some of your shoes when atarian wanted something then flitted elsewhere, I would also try to remind myself it isn't the end of the world, he has a lot of growing to do, and that would be strike 1. (I do keep a tally and I go to the 2 strikes rule......3rd strike should never happen and if it does...well, then that is another story).

In this case, has atarian been dishonest or cheated you? No.
Has he wasted your time? Yes, I think Michael Dixon and others would say.
Has he harmed you financially? No....wouldn't count "not buying" as hurting someone financially....no one went out and paid for something to sell explicitly to him.
Has he made you feel like a fool and hurt your rep? Yes, I think that that is how a few feel.

In short, I think too many people are taking frustrations out lately at whoever is in their way. If you don't like the thread or the title, skip it. But, that is part of the difference with this board and the ngc one.....people will comment on anything and everything (even if only to be sarcastic or attack someone).
(btw...full disclosure image.....I hardly ever check on that desert of a board and I never post there...I prefer this one even with the issues).

Michael.....Louis....the others.....you guys were never young and excited? You guys were hatched fully mature and calm?

btw.....Atarian...be careful how you idolize.....Russ is a smart guy, but he has spent time learning his product...to just go out and buy the same things that you think Russ would is not smart. He actually, I believe, "makes" a lot of his higher pop coins. So, rather than just go buy the same things, learn the series, buy small and learn. Then move up

boch, as much as i appriceate the kind words. i hope i didnt hurt what people think of micheal and all. hes a great guy as many others ive talked to. and this should not take away from their reps. they are great guys to deal with and take time to answer people. (in my case no matter how much of a waste the person might be). but anyway. i apologize to them all and i learn not to waste people's time. i plan to go in peace for a while and let my money start saving up and go from there. i dont wnat to take away from others. i think deep down that louis and micheal should have a problem with me cause i never think i just act. i never had to actually plan out what i want and make a plan to get it. i just jump jump jump. thats why i was in contact with 4 or 5 people at once. cause i didnt want to wait. as much as that was selfish on my part it wasnt fair to them. and im sorry.

  • Bochiman,

I stand corrected, I did confuse Atarian's means of income with the other youngster. And for that:

    Atarian, I apologise.

But Bochiman, you have made serveral judgements here with no idea of what you are talking about. Myself as well as many others have tried to help atarian out and make sure that he isnt taken advantage of. And if you would have read the early posts to this thread you would have seen that.
I have tried everyway that I could think of to help him. I raised 3 children on my own and now have two grandchildren living with me now. I am a very giving individual. And in Atarian's case, I even went as far as to give him my phone number and he let him know that he could call on my dime.

    Sincerly,
    Louis

He's a good kid. I think we all forget how WE were when we were young, excitable and impulsive. Even as we grow older 31, 41, 61... we still don't know it all and we'd do well to remember this and be more lenient/ tolerant and forgiving towards one another. I haven't known very many perfect people, including myself....far from it. If we would all treat each other the way we would like to be treated the world would be a much better place in which to live.image

I believe atarian means well and is a very enthusiastic collector that is a bit confused on his goals in Numismatics. Perhaps a little immature? I dunno, maybe he drinks too much coffee. I see he has upset a board dealer or two and I can understand their frustration.

But I don't feel he should be blackballed for his actions as he now clearly understoods why he has upset some of you and clearly apologized in public. I feel that's a good first step.

Now that the nice guy in me is done with

  • atarian - You've got to slow down! Whoa big fella!!! You're setting yourself up for some poor buys that you'll probably never breakeven on. Take your time and enjoy the hunt.

Also, could you proof read your posts? They are replete with typos, poor grammar, misplaced punctuation, atrocious spelling, etc. No one's perfect, but I think your posts are indicative of your impatience.

BTW, 75% of PCGS price guide figures would be a steal in some coins/series, and a total ripoff in others. Take some time to learn!!

    Atarian,

While I'm flattered as hell that you're looking to buy specific coins because you think that's what I would buy, I have to agree with those who've said you should be more patient in your approach. It's very easy to let one's enthusiasm take control and then rush in and spend too much, or end up with coins that you might later discover don't really fit your own collecting desires.

And, Bochiman is correct when he says that most of my high grade material I found raw and submitted myself. That took me time - and many many mistakes - before I got to the point where I could do that with any degree of success.

If your heart is set on proof Kennedy Halves, I'd suggest that initially you just pick up a couple of graded PR69DCAMs. The years from 1977 forward are extremely common and extremely cheap. After you have a couple, study them, and get a feel for them and make sure that's the direction you really want to go before spending any more money.
