  • Foggy Santa Barbara, CA. Really, no need to visit or move here.... First cards were the "old" baseball cards the other kids traded away in '71. Collected through '75 and then set 'em aside.

And RobE - I believe your photo is of the rockabilly band called The Cadillac Angels. They're from SB, too. Though I've also seen them play in Phoenix.

  • Originally from NJ, now of northern Ohio.

I began collecting "Mars Attacks!" cards when I was a kid. Had quite a few completed sets of them, along with a few sets of baseball cards.

I began collecting again in 1988.

Is this some kind of sneaky Homeland Security survey? Nicky, how do I know you're not Tom Ridge?
  • Yes, you figured it out. PSA Registry members are now considered a high risk group by Homeland Security. We are trying to determine what states have high concentration of collectors in order to raise threat level in those states.

No, really, I just thought it would be interesting to see where we are all from and when we first started collecting!
  • BOTR - You got it right that people all over the world can read these boards! At this very minute I am sitting in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia (aka the Outback) and am catching up on this board! This stuff is truly global!

BTW, I am from West Virginia and have lived in VA since 1994 with stops in Syracuse, NYC, and MD (I worked in Baltimore for 16 years).

  • Born and Raised in Chicago's beautiful South side "Back of the Yards". Now living about 60 miles west in DeKalb.

No wonder I get a wierd look when I say to someone, "I'll take 1 of dem, 2 of dose, and tree of dose tings"

First packs were in 1980 at the age of 6, started heavy in 1983. Sold all my cards for $100 bucks the year of the strike, I hated baseball then because the Sox were doing well. Really regret this now because there was a shop called "Family Coin's" were I used to ride my bike and pick up MINT 1965 commons for pennies. I always loved the vintage stuff. All of these commons (few hundred) were with the rest that went for $100. Got back into collect strictly PSA graded about a year and a half ago.

Virginia, DC Metro area. I can honestly say I do not remember what led me to "collect" cards. I can remember how I started Comic Book collecting but the sports card is a mystery.

  • I'm global.

    Okay, I'm in Oregon.

  • I grew up in Scranton PA, a stones throw from Dupont--home of Topps. I remember having bagfuls of 1968 Baseball, Beatles cards and 1970 Basketball. My mother threw out unopened packs of cards because she figured the gum was bad. To this day every time I visit I still look in the trash hoping to find them.
    Always looking for T59 Flags.

Born in Detroit, now live in Orlando, Florida. My first cards bought were 1971; five for a nickle out of a Ben Franklin drug store vending machine. My mom marked a "T" in blue ink on the Detroit Tiger cards so I would know not to trade those to the big kids on my block. Gee, thanks, mom.

  • I enjoyed finding out where you are all from! I also found it interesting to hear when everybody started collecting cards! I also enjoyed hearing how many left the hobby and recently started again! I was an avid collector from 1974 - 1989, then I sold my collection, invested the money, went to law school, got married, started a family, etc. Then 2 years ago I took my oldest son to a card show - I was hooked once again! Thanks to EBAY I have bought many of my childhood cards (that I sold in 1990) in PSA 8 or better! The PSA Set Regsitry has really brought back the thrill of collecting, again!
  • Well I am from the Republic of Alberta up here stuck in Canada..............and my first cards ever were
    the 73/74 OPC NHL...........

    Thanks

Menomonie, Wisconsin. The first pack of cards I remember buying were 1991 pro set football. (ok, not a great set to get but hey, I was 9 at the time). I loved the pictures and I was hooked.
