I have to make a return on eBay......

RampageRampage Posts: 9,450 ✭✭✭✭✭
This is the first time out of my eBay buying that I must return a coin. I emailed the seller a few minutes ago to see how they would like to handle it.

I won a PCGS MS65 1976-P Type 2 IKE and I got a 1976-D Type 2 IKE in MS65. A little bit of a price difference between the two.

I emailed and was polite about it and also asked that they refund the shipping I pay to send the coin back. Was that okay to do? I am not being too picky right? After all, it was not my mistake.

Any comments?

Thanks.

If they sent the wrong thing, they should cover all your expenses.
  • Oops didnt read the differant coin part. You did the right thing.

Absolutely. The seller made the mistake, so he should pay shipping both ways. There is no way a buyer should be out anything when a seller sends the wrong item.

This seller should definitely pay shipping both ways, since this is what was shown in the auction:

  • Absolutely!! The seller pays for everything and refunds your initial shipping as well. If you were simply returning it under a "no questions asked" return policy then you'd be responsible--when I've returned a coin I didn't like I've normally offered to have them deduct initial shipping and PayPal fees (if I've used it)--out of 7 or 8 returns I've never had a seller take me up on it. Always have gotten a full refund.
    Curmudgeon in waiting!

Yep, that is the coin that was shown in the auction. The coin I got was not that one. Sure the picture sucked, but I have faith that the actual coin looks better than that.

By the way, the cert number on the coin I got was one less than the one on the slab in the picture.

Sounds like an honest mistake, and looking over his feedback it looks like he is a good seller. Just keep the emails polite and cordial, and I think it will work out for you. I have had this happen on inexpensive coins and the seller told me to keep the wrong coin and they sent the right coin!

I am sure it was an honest mistake, too. Hopefully, he did not send my coin to someone who was suppose to get this one. Boy, that sure would stink.

The seller had several very nice IKEs running that week. All sold for less of what I would have paid for them! Too bad my sniper did not work. image One of our very own board members got two or three of them though. image Wonder if I can beg to get them back.....
