Post some thing you would NEVER do in the coin hobby / business

Here is mine: Never buy anything off ebay. And if I do, it 's only because the seller is a forum member here that other members recommend.
Post yours.

I would never ignore a whole venue for coins just because arguably a few/some/many/most coins on that venue are no good. There still could be some good ones.

I will never submit a coin to ACG for grading. Well, you asked.

I would never knowingly sell a fake coin for real. If I don't know what it is, I do my best to try and find out what it might be, then sell it as such. I've sold some things on eBay that I just couldn't find out exactly what they where beforehand, but almost always, someone will come along and let me know what it is. Sometimes just by the bids I get on them though, some people don't want you to know, it's half the fun!!! .

  • Cameron,

You promise to buy back any coin for 80% or less? Gee, thanks! image

  • I usually buy back at 90% or more (after the return period) if you weren't satisfied, but I said I wouldn't even SELL if I didn't want to buy it back.

I wouldn't rip off or take advantage of a friend/acquaintance who doesn't know what a coin's really worth.
  • I would NEVER throw my most valued coins in a wishing well, no matter what I wished. But if a Genie popped out of a bottle, that's a whole other matter---lol

I'd never try to stop the other guy from making a profit in a trade. It is imperative
that a deal be mutually beneficial. If you don't allow the other guy some profit then
he'll soo cease to be a trading partner, customer, or whatever. Sure I do like to max-
imize my profit but there must be profit for the other party also. Obviously his profit
should not be dependent on defrauding or cheating the next guy.

I would NEVER take out a loan, go in debt, etc. to purchase a coin, regardless of how much I want/like/need it.

I would, as Dork Girl does, never knowingly sell a counterfeit coin, as genuine.

I have and would sell counterfeits, as counterfeits, if the buyer is known to me as a collector of counterfeits or as a specialist in a specific series that the counterfeit is from.

This must be one of the very top NO-NO's.

I have had great luck on eBay. You just have to look for the red flags and avoid those sellers. This is true in just about all eBay catagories, not just coins. To avoid eBay is silly. Just use your head.

I would NEVER buy and/or sell a colorized, plated (ahem, statehood quarters 'platinum edition' image ), or reproduction coin, or silver rounds, or do business with anyone who makes any significant amount of their income dealing with the aforementioned garbage.

I would NEVER send my coins to a grading service with a shoddy reputation, and I won't be mentioning specific services here but I'm sure everyone knows who I'm talking about or has their own ideas of such services.

I buy from Ebay and in fact have completed a nice VF/XF barber set utilizing mostly Ebay and internet dealers and auction sites. I won't buy Unc. coins from Ebay or from internet scans no matter how reputable the seller. If I can't see the coin in person for higher graded and pricier Unc. coins I don't buy.

I will NEVER buy an ugly coin, just because it is rare or scarce. If it has smashing eye appeal whether common or scarce, then I am interested.

  • I would never do business with a friend. Too many excellent friendships have been ruined that way, not to mention money lost.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
  • I'd never rip-off an old lady.

I would never knowingly take advantage of anyone. I try to treat people I buy from and sell to the way I like to be treated.

I'll never forsake the little guy and will continue to buy from the smaller dealers. What we do if all there was was Bay of E?

I would never sell or for that matter even give away a coin that looks like the following coin. When I get these I just take my lumps and try to be more cautious.

Dang I forgot something. I did sell a Whizzed coin on Ebay one time. Later on I believe I saw the same coin back on Ebay without a statement saying it was Whizzed. Then and there is when I decided that a Whizzed coin would never be sold again by myself.
