In a word: no. Not even close, really. Sorry. My guess is they're worth a total of $40 or so, if that, and I doubt if you'd get more than $10 each for them.

See if you can get your money back, they are no where close to being worth $200, more like $30 on a good day... $20 on any other....

No, and it would cost more to send them to PCGS than they are worth, even if they wouldn't be bodybagged for being cleaned.

Some quick advice, read and research before you buy, especially since you are new to collecting

This is what an uncirculated gem Morgan should look like, and this is what is worthy of slabbing for a common date

if your Morgans were 1893-S or some other key, it would be worth sending to ANACS (PCGS will bag them), but they are relatively common issues in circulated.

Go to the website below to learn more about Morgan dollars, an excellent site for beginners.

I hate that you spent that much on these coins before you asked around here how much they are worth. I would ask your friend to give you your money back. In any case take it as a lesson learned, that something that is old is not always valuable. I hope that you stick around and learn more about Morgans and other coins. There is a lot of information to be found here.

Bass: Welcome to the forum. Your best bet would be to ask your friend if he/she offers return priviledges.

You can buy already certified slabbed Mint State 63 Common Date Morgan Dollars for $40-$45 each.

image, but you should have received Carson City coins for that much, not Philly's. Hopefully he is your friend and will give you back your money. I would pay about $8 apiece for them, not much more than spot silver price.

    Becky's right.

If the sale price was just a random guess at a coin's value, not an attempt to rip you off and the seller values the friendship, hopefully you can show them this thread and they'll agree that you shouldn't have paid even 15-20% of what you did. If they're really a friend and they didn't intend to hose you, they'll take the coins back or at least refund the difference between what you paid and what they are worth (I'd say $30 is reasonably fair in that case).
  • Welcome Bass, Sorry to say I agree with all of the above folks It was a bad deal for you and sending them to pcgs will make it worse.

I agree with what everyone else has said. no sense throughing good money after bad. If you cant get your money back keep them there still morgans and they have a story to tell.
