Which would you sell and which would you keep?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I have a 1893-S $10 Eagle (MS-63) and a 1895-S $20 Double Eagle (MS-64) and I need to get rid of one of them. Which would you sell and which would you keep and why? What would be a good selling price for each? Thanks.

I'd think in the long run you're better off with the MS64 (that's assuming both are true to the grade).

I'd stick with the higher eye appealing one which is likely the higher graded one.

I'd keep the Eagle. Theres less of them.

I'm with CCU, the Eagle would be a more difficult to replace and hence, if both coins are accurately graded and attractive as such, I'd keep the eagle.

CDN has the Eagle at $3150 and the Double Eagle at $4300.

Edited to add: Kepp which ever one impresses you more. Personally, I collect $20 Libs.

  • I would prefer the higher grade, larger coin. So that would be the Double Eagle image

Ive been reading about Longacre, Director U.S. Mint...very nice nic.
Maybe I should change my nic to F. L. Olmstead.

    Good luck out there!

P.S. Nice coins are hard to find, very nice coins are a joy.

Keep the one that would be hardest to replace. If you LIKE both coins it will be a difficult decision either way but the grade probably doesn't mean much since, at the very least, they are roughly close in grade. Even if they weren't I'd still keep the one that is hardest to replace.

I am not abig collector of gold, so take this with some caution, but

Even though the $20 is a slight better grade, I would tend to choose the $10 eagle if nice. I have a few folks that ask me to find gold on occasion, And I seem to have a more diffciult time finding nice 10's than 20;s.

  • I would keep the $10 and sell the $20.
  • Go for the eye appeal and quality. I'd keep the $20.
