Dealers/ eBay sellers, do you ever..................

Include a free bonus coin..... just... "because"!? Ya know, to ensure the customers' satisfaction?

Sorta the way PCGS sends complimentary Blue Boxes or other "little things" that some dealers/ sellers do
like sending a slabbed coin in a slab case?

If you do, does it make you feel better to give or have you never even thought about it? Just curious?image

When the new Jefferson nickels came out I was giving one away with each coin and I have some 2004 state quarter sets that I'm shipping in a PCGS blue box as a bonus.

I don't think either helped sales any.

    Many times.

Recently I had a buyer purchase two Wash Qrtrs from two different auctions. He paid faster than I could send out an invoice. I combine shipping and it would have saved him $1. so I sent a circulated silver Wash. Qrtr for combined shipping.

Another time I had someone send me a ten dollar bill for a $9.95 purchase and I sent him a Buffalo Nickel as change and others where I sent wheat pennies or mercury dimes as change or compensation. It's fun and the buyers' get a kick out of it.

    Joe.

Several of the error coin folks regularly send bonus coins, and many include notes about other sellers and site links. I've also gotten Jolly Ranchers. image

I've also received some nice bonuses

docscooner sent me an American Flag slab holder on a PR70DCAM SHQ I bought from him

dabigkahoona sent me a nice New Orleans Mint token when I bought a 1872 Seated Liberty Half, PCGS AU50.

    Thanks!

  • I will when someone orders more than three coins, or when the total is over $1000.00
  • I bought a nice toned Binion Morgan and the seller included a book about Binion with it.

  • on rare occassions, someone really puts in a surprisingly high bid for a pretty beat up coin-- so (even though the item was pictured on ebay) i often throw in a bonus coin on such an occassion to ensure they feel like they got their money's worth. Of course the beat up coin i sold them was probably some rare variety worth a fortune......

Rick Tomaska includes free candy. Or, at least, I think it's candy... image

One recent deal, bought on eBay from a Forum Member, included a coin I had to return. I felt bad doing so (only my second return) and was pleasantly surprised when the Seller not only instantly refunded my Paypal purchase price without even getting the coin back yet, but a few days later in the mail I received a pleasant assortment of various coins, all compliments of the Seller!

No bonus coin but, I was sent a handfull of jolly ranchers in with the coins that I ordered. I about died. What if they had melted sticky all over my coins ? Of course, they would have been sent back. Did not eat the candy either. image

I got a roll of new nickels from a seller when I bought an 1892-CC Morgan. He called the Morgan an MS62. ANACS called it AU58. He got the better end of the deal.

    I'm sooooooo easy.

A couple times I've gotten little freebies and it just totally made my day!

A good customer of mine told me he needed a few PCGS boxes earlier this month - so I shipped him (60) free of charge as a thank you for continued business.

Geez - now that I think of it - I hope he is happy when the giant box arrives at his door

And sometimes I give NICE bonus coins as apologies for slow shipping. image

  • Until recently (when funds for extra projects like coins) I gave a Buffalo, Winged Liberty dime, or Liberty nickel to every buyer as a "thank you", even on transactions when I lost money.

Although we're not poor, we just don't have the extra funds.

I think it is a great idea. I got numerous letters from my buyers who had stories to tell of what they did with their surprise coins. Examples: "gave it to my grandson"; "gave it to a neighborhood kid"; "gave it to my son"; "how did you know my birth year? What a treat!"

The closest thing I've done to a bonus coin is one time a buyer paid me by mailing cash. They paid me 1¢ too much so I stuck a raw 1917 circulated wheatie in the package when I shipped them the coin. image
