Turning Market

ddbirdddbird Posts: 3,168 ✭✭✭
I went to update my price's on my graded coins...and for the 1st time ever the amount decreased slightly. It only went down a total of 1%, with some coins rising and a few falling sharply (roosies are down the hatch) I assume the market will begin to turn around..which is fine for me but bad news for the dealers! Buy whiles its low

Stock pick'o'the day NTES

To keep it coin related has anyone seen recent coin series that have rocketed or fallen in the past couple of months?

Just glimpsing, I saw NTC!!! Man, there's a great investment. NOT!

I havent noticed any weakening in the market. I have noticed that some of the better date coins that are easily availible (at a premium) are stalling out.

If it's going down, I don't think I'll step in front of a freight train. I follow one morgan date on ebay and teletrade. The price on this coin has droped in the last couple of weeks. Maybe supply has met demand.

Prices only go down AFTER I buy a particular coin. Since I haven't been able to win any auctions lately I expect the bust market to stay very strong.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Cam roosies have taken a hard hit...most of my morgans are still strong. Some of my proof franklins have also fallen by about 10% too. I use red book, grey sheets, and pcgs for prices!
  • I've just returned to the hobby after a very long absence so what I'm about to say may not be a revelation. As I understand it the coin market is thinly traded and as a result price swings can be frequent and substantial.

While there's a lot of truth here, not all segments of the market are so thinnly traded. Morgans
and obsolete 20th century type have a great deal of demand. Certainly they still have proven
capable of changing directions suddenly and dramatically though.

It doesn't seen very likely that this market has peaked nor is much rotation necessarily indicated.

    Time will tell.

  • Every Morgan I own has gone wayyyyy up in value over the last 2 years (they are all PCGS).
So I am really happy about that right now.
I am trying to pick up some that I could have got for hundreds cheaper just 3 months ago!!
    It's crazy.
The market is HOT right now.
    I love it.

Hmmm...what usually happens in the middle of the summer? People go on vacation. Parents spend time outdoors with their children. Expenses for recreational activities increase sharply.

Follow up on this after the next Long Beach show...if prices are trending downward ACROSS THE BOARD then I'll buy into the idea of a market correction. Generic coins may be a bit soft but I'm getting blown out of the water on most of the "buy it now or regret it later" material that I'm chasing on the open market. There used to be a noticable pullback in selling during this time of the year but market dynamics have changed that to a degree with veteran dealers having to constantly load up on cash or miss out on coins that are coming to light for the first time in years; and with new dealers and mid-level collectors selling into what they feel is a continuously rising market instead of taking the time to fully analyze the timing of their sales.

If you have extra cash right now this would be a good time to get some of those generic purchases out of the way...especially generic key dates. On the other hand be careful what you buy...there may be a lot of coins floating around but the PQ, great eye appeal examples will for the most part be tucked away until the leaves turn or will only be offered for sale at the higher levels of a few month ago.

Cripes, I hope not, I have 22 Lots coming-up at Auction on August 29th. How far down can the prices go in another 5 weeks!?
