With The Addition Of This 1795 Half-Dime, I've completed My Registry Set

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just kidding I have no registry set. Never been a set builder but ended up doing the "Flowing Hair Silver Set." I kinda think the half-dime has some personality with the mint made issues. And oh soooo original Baley.image

Anyway, just thought I'd share them together. Enjoy?

Baley, starting from the top.... DOLLAR, HALF DOLLAR, HALF-DIME.image

The dollar is in and old shaker holder, so I know that would be my best bet to crack, dip, and a slam dunk upgrade to DCAM.

All 3 are beautiful!! image It would look much better though if your Half matched your Dollar and Half-Dime... image And I'm still not sure about that little bit there by S4 and S5... can you get some closer/bigger pics of that area?

I'm pretty sure stman has a darker FH half... got a pic of that one handy?

And a special thanks to JrGMan2004 for attributing the half-dime for me. He is very sharp and very enthusiastic about these old classics. Got to hand it to him, at his young age and appreciating dirty old original coins is a big plus to the hobby.

If you're talking about the area from s5 that goes down to the hair.... it's like a planchet flake/die-crack/planchet flaw. Up by the rim is actually picked up a bit. You can see in the middle where it separated or picked up some metal. And sorry it's not matched up for you. Perhaps if I scrubbed um up they would all match nice and shiny for you. image

It does look to be more of a planchet flaw than something with the die to me, but might be misleading without seeing it in hand... image Still, an interesting piece... has a little unique character to it like that, kinda like adjustment marks. Some of the plate coins in the Logan/McCloskey book has really heavy adjustment marks on the bust... kinda looks cool though, and makes it really easy to verify the coin as the plate coin...

I think this is a clash mark, typical for a LM-10.

A very nice, undisturbed, late die state coin, IMO.

The mark above the "TY" and the 9th star is a cud. It's a well known die state for the LM-10 variety. Here's the same feature on a piece that is in a PCGS AU-58 holder.

Great job in putting together that set of flowing hair silver. image

Thanks for the good words folks. And thanks Bill Jones for posting your piece as well. My half-dime is in a PCGS holder VF20. The "story" was it was once in a PCGS VF25 holder, than was raw in a collection. Upon the coin getting sold (or traded) it was sent to PCGS and came back VF20. Looks pretty nice for the grade IMO.

My reference was to the die feature behind Liberty's head, runing diagonally from S5 into the curls.

Sorry, I should not have been so oblique.

    Beautiful coins stman!
