mnmcoin, Morris, of this Forum recently opened a coin shop in beautiful, Old Town, Temecula. We've communicated via PM's for awhile and he invited me earlier in the week for a 'show and tell' with stunning rainbow coins. Elizabeth and I drove up there early yesterday afternoon and had a terrific two hour visit. First, I'll tell you, this is no ordinary coin shop. Morris has it set up real nice with that 'old fashioned' appeal yet everything organized.
His showcases have a bit of everything for the budding collector up to some pretty sophisticated coins. He brought out his "A Box" of toned material and I was floored! It's all housed in either PCGS (predominantly) with some NGC. Steller stuff here folks! I viewed coins I didn't believe could exist. Everything from a GEM NEON GREEN Contemporary Lincoln to colorful Jefferson proofs that would knock your socks off. Morris also as an enthusiasm and a love for the hobby that's tough to beat among Dealers, let alone collectors.
If you are within any kind of driving distance from Temecula (located about 40 minutes north of San Diego and 30 minutes east of Oceanside) it'd be worth your while. Temecula is also a wonderful town to visit afterward with cool shops and even a 'home made' rootbeer factory that offers the best tasting rootbeer I've ever had!
Here's my purchase yesterday from Morris. He'd take a better picture than me, but you get the idea:

Sorry to break the news to you about that ASE, though- it's definitely undergraded, in my humble opinion. That one's AG03 all day long!
(In fact, it looks pretty close to G04 to me!)
I almost want to head out there just to see what he looks like
PS: I had a certain mental image of Wayne Herndon that was shattered when I actually saw a picture of him. I couldn't have been more wrong! I wonder how close I am with Morris
Come on, Minsberg, let's see a pic...whacha hiding?
Carried in pocket with lots of other change, and handled a lot, probably daily. Lot of work!
Or, tumbled in a rock tumbler with a mix of pocket change, squares of denim material, and a little oil and soil!
Braddick, thanks for the report, I'll have to check out Morris' shop next time I'm up the 15.

<< <i>How and where, in thee hell, did that SAE get so darn worn? It just doesn't seem possible---Timewise that is. Carried in pocket with lots of other change, and handled a lot, probably daily. The coins I've seen processed like this have the appearance, first glance, of a low grade "problem free" coin, but that is not the case. Under even low magnification a 'porous' appeal is evident and doesn't escape the eye of the graders at PCGS (or ANACS and NGC). Circulation wear and pocket piece wear is difficult to duplicate rapidly, if at all.
It's one reason I offered the $1,000.00 "PO01 Ike" contest. I didn't care how anyone got the Ike to PO01, if PCGS (or, NGC) graded it, any date, any mint, I'd have paid- rock tumbled or not, artifically worn or not.
Several weeks later, other than paying out for an NGC FA02, my offer still stands and has yet to be challenged.

Thanks. I did a Yellow Pages serach online for coin shops in Temecula and it didn't list any.
There is also a shop in Lake Elsinore (Lake Elsinore Coin) I've been meaning to go to, owned by a forum member.
Now I can visit two in one trip

He recently opened, so it's likely not had a chance to get in.
Don't take any money or morris will get it from you.

As far as the shop is concerned, it really has been a lot of fun. I hope to be able to meet alot of collectors and learn and impart as much as I can. We have just been opened a few weeks now, but so far I have met with alot of people who are very enthused that we are open.
We did miss the verizon yellow pages ad this year, but should be in the next...I did the other two books in the area, one of which got our phone # wrong which really stinks. Pat is right on about Old Town, it is a great place, lots of great nick nack shops...one of the original streets in Temecula, which by the way was the second post office location ever in California. The town is very historic and cool to visit, I believe it dates back, well into the mid 19th century. Kind of an old west town...they even have many weekly and monthy street type fairs and such. And they recreate the old west atmosphere I believe twice a year...chocked full of old west outfits, gun fights, bank robberies, etc. It is alot of fun for the whole family.
I quite my rant...but will say that if anyone wishes for exact directions just pm and I'll steer you in...Old Town is pretty much a weekender, touristy town, so I am open all weekend...just closed on Tuesday and Wednsday for a little rest and work at home.

Coin I bought from you months ago was A-OK
Bump for that!
Also, bump anyway for the wisdom you have in having a hobby (coin) shop open on the weekends instead of many that aren't open on the weekends (or limited hours Saturday and closed Sunday) and making up for your precious time by taking dull Tues/Weds off
Good look!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>It's named MNMCOIN and is located right off of I-15 and Rancho California (the main exit to Temecula). Drive west and turn left at the first light; drive approximately 3/4 mile and he's located past sixth street (I believe), on the left hand side. >>
