Holy cow, Bob! What a colorful, fun collection! I see you just posted the 1981 Topps Scratchoff that I just scanned to see if you had it. I also see the 5x7 Photos pack, which is the same one I have.
Anyway, here are the scans I had PMed you about. (Sorry about the large scans. Photobucket just bit the dust for awhile the way it looks. I'll work on reducing the size later.)
You have this unopened '80T 5x7...
and you have this 1981 Topps Scratchoff...
and you almost didn't have this (off by one year) 1989 Topps Mini League Leader...
but you did need this unopened 1990 Sportsflic right?!
I'll keep looking through my stuff to see if there's anything else I might have that you need. You seem to have everything I've got from 1981 on and then some. Keep up the good work. You'll have to open a museum some day. I'd make the pilgrimage!
How I missed this thread is beyond me? I check these boards each and every day from the day I joined? Anywho nice stuff Bob! If you don't mind me asking is the Griffey 89 Heads up test the same head shot as the 90?
I believe so, but I don't know for sure. I've never opened the box of '90s that I have since I know that one box = one complete set. Luckily, they have the copyright year on the back so you can tell the difference.
Don't forget the '79 test comics...I remember when they first came out, we lucked into a few boxes, took them to a show and sold the case in about 20 minutes. That was the era when ANYTHING new and different from Topps was really anticipated & appreciated. Simpler times but fun and MUCH less expensive! We really thought we could collect everything back then and not die trying.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Bob Do you know how the 1990 Topps Kmart LL mini cards were issued? Not the standard Topps Mini LL they have the Batting Avg. of each player on the front and I am sure they are tough?
<< <i>Bob Do you know how the 1990 Topps Kmart LL mini cards were issued? Not the standard Topps Mini LL they have the Batting Avg. of each player on the front and I am sure they are tough? >>
John, They were issued one per pack in the K-Mart cellos. Not sure how many cards you had to buy to get one of the league leader cards, but if I remember correctly, it looked like about 72 of them. Same answer for the '89s. Bob
Bob--awesome stuff from someone who loves vintage unopened wax and has a decent collection. I was lucky enpough to pick up a GAI-8 '68 Action All Star pack, and a '69 Topps Super pack. Rare stuff as you know. I actually shared your thread on the eBay vintage wax pack board and it got great reviews. Do you sell on eBay? If so, what is your ID? Do you have a web site? I assume you sell, if so, how? I am sure you have stuff I would be interested in... Thanks--Manny

Hi Manny,
Congrats on landing the Action All-Star and '69 Super packs. Amazingly rare. Is your Super pack graded?
I didn't know there was an eBay vintage wax pack board. I'll have to go check it out.
My eBay ID is the same as my CU login. I've sold only a few things on eBay and nothing for the last few months. I sold my backup set of '68 3-D cards last year as my first adventure with eBay selling. It did OK.
Bob--here is a link to the eBay wax pack group. Some novices, some vets who have great collections. null
I got the '69 Super pack from Sportscards Plus a few years back. He had an auction of some great stuff--3 super packs, a complete set of '67 Stand Ups, etc. It is not graded. I cannot stand GAI anymore and am waiting to see if PSA does jump into pack grading. GAI does nothing for me as a customer. I do buy slabbed packs, but have not sent any in for some time. Another nice item I have is a '60 BB Rak with Yaz on top--GAI-7.5. If I knew how to post pics on this board, I would.
Manny, Thanks for the link! I searched around on eBay for a while today, but I was looking in a different place. I requested membership, so I'll just have to wait and see if I'm allowed in. Is there an initiation test?
What is your favorite color? Blue. No yel-- Auuuuuuuugh!
Bob
P.S. I'm also waiting for PSA to start grading packs.
Bob, your run of modern packs is astounding... you are a true collector in every sense of the word! You are the first person I've met who has actually bothered to keep so many of those late '80s oddball issues... and thnaks for posting the '51 Connie Mack pack... it's gorgeous! Looks like that's a picture of Teddy ballgame on the wrapper which is ironic considering that it would be 3 more years before Topps actually had him under contract!
<< <i>Mams- don't let Bob off so easily. He's got to bust that Plak pack and build them. >>
I could probably bust the pack open, but heck if I could build the darn thing. I've still got glue stuck between my fingers from building my Aurora Incredible Hulk model in '67.
Keith, It wasn't just Topps unopened crap that I kept. This is the proverbial tip o' the crap iceberg. Bob
<< <i>Mams- don't let Bob off so easily. He's got to bust that Plak pack and build them. >>
I would have a hard time not busting that particular pack, just because that checklist is the most beautiful baseball checklist ever produced

I usually don't put an old thread to the top, simply because it is a cool old thread, but I ran across this one this evening, and thought it was worth putting back up here. Very very cool to look through this thread. Hope those that joined in the last four years enjoy :-)

<< <i>Bob--get any of the boxes in the last Mastro...errr Legendary Auction? Many went unsold. Many nice and rare boxes! >>
I lusted after them in my heart, but I did not bid. They would have been great to have, but I knew I couldn't afford to start down another collecting path.
It's fun to see this thread resurrected. I've gained a few of the things that I didn't have when this thread was started.
I also found a '64 Topps Tattoos pack with the red wrapper, but I haven't scanned it yet (lazy).
I've posted this image elsewhere of a '64 Push-Pull I got from a neighbor when he was moving back in the mid-60s. It's not in the best shape, but it's sure a conversation piece!
Bob What a collection of unopened packs you have there. I don't think we will ever see this pack come up and if it does I am sure it will go for over $15K if it does.
Regards, Shane
1971 TOPPS GREATEST MOMENTS
Don't have.
Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases
Were they even issued in packs? The cards seem more plentiful that other sets ('68 3d, Plaks, etc) but I don't think a circulated wrapper has ever appeared, much less a pack. Wondering if it's like '61 Dice. Shane, I think $15k might be conservative, Bob and Al R. both would be opening up their deep, bottomless pockets for that one!
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
But I still do not know how to tell the difference between a 70 and 71 Super pack and hope someone can explain it in a way that is easier to apply than Bob did above
