See, if we took away the drivers license of every old person this sort of thing wouldn't happen. image

Posted on the Darkside a few times, too.

    An "1890 Kruger sovereign".

Whatinhell are they talking about? The South African Republic didn't strike sovereigns. The British did strike sovereigns in South Africa, but not until the 1920's, and those didn't have Kruger on them. The South Africans did strike gold 1/2-pond and 1-pond pieces with Kruger's portrait, but not in 1892.

And none of those possibilities would be worth "over $1000", anyway.

Looks like the typical garbled nonsense that comes into the mainstream media and gets repeated over and over without anyone checking any facts. Like the 1943 cent hoopla that was circulated by Paul Harvey and others, a few years back. How many dealers remember that ? Raise your hands. I was in Bill Wright's Asheville coin shop one day and they fielded over a hundred phone calls from people with "rare" 1943 "silver pennies". Oh, yeah- and one lady with an 1806 Indian head cent. Yes, that's right. She was absolutely positive. It was dated 1806, and not 1906.
