    Very sharp,
Looks like a nice forums site also! The Virtual museum is a great idea. With all the photos on file here on this forum a fantastic Krause like picture album in color is possible. They need somebody to groom that database.

    Sylvestius,

you're the reason of my first visit to James I's section in my Spink. The pages were almost stuck together. image

Could you tell us a bit more about it, such as weight , size, value , etc ?

I've always liked the portrait style on that Laurel coinage.

Not that I've ever owned one.

Neat! Maybe one day I'll do one of those detecting tours in England and find one there. image

I suppose there are a very small few to be found on this side of the pond, too, in places like Virginia, but the odds of finding one would be infinitesimally small, I guess.

Well the overall size is just bigger than a nickel, i bought this specimen for £220 which is about $400 roughly (depending on the exchange rate at the time). I don't know the exact weight cos the catalogue doesn't say and i ain't got anything to weight it on!

It was issued as a gold Crown or five shilling piece along with the two larger denominations, the 10/- and the 20/-. As the 20/- had a laureated bust it quickly picked up the name Laurel, and naturally as the 10/- and 5/- pieces were alike they picked up the same Laurel name but were known as halves or quarters respectively.

And i haven't really paid much attention to James I either! image

Yes they have been found in the US because they used to circulate in the US!

With your shield sovereign dateset, you'll most likely need a scale. Thanks for the input. image

Thanks. It is a labor of love and far from complete. image Although my focus is mostly the US stuff, Sylvestius has added a number of UK coins in it and I plan to add more of other countries at a later date...at least the ones I collect.

On a related note, if you are unfamiliar with this site:

    http://www.omnicoin.com

you should take a look at it. For a Krause type reference, it is already light years beyond my little museum and it grows daily. If everyone here uploaded some of their different coins, it could really be something. Omnicoin is not my site but I do know the owner and host a sub-section on my site for his forums.

Sorry to temporarily hijack your thread Sylvestius! That is a nice coin you have there!
