Unhappy with a dealer

a dealer online that has been a very nice person willing to teach me about ocins sold 4 coins and a $1 note that i wanted and told me " and everything else on my site is spoken for come this weekend" . This is probably the crudist way of saying F*** off . how can you spend 2 days talking to me about coisn and with me saying ill take em and then you sell them. thats a slap in the ye ole face.

I have no idea what you are saying.? Are you saying that he told you that he would hold the coins for you?

  • If you have a history and have bought coins in the past from this dealer the behavior is terrible and let them know and show them by taking your business elsewhere. If you did not tell him you wanted the coins for sure and had been going back and forth for a few days, the dealer may have went with a solid buyer and he was unsure if you were going to go through with the deal. I have found that establishing a relationship with a dealer goes both ways. The dealer has to make enough money to support his family and pay the bills. I have found most dealers very helpfull but there comes a point when that old saying kicks in"Sh#t or get off the pot". After talking with you for a few days he may have had another customer waiting and finally had to go with the sure buy. If you have bought before and he did this to you it's time to find another dealer and there are some real good ones on this board.

" and everything else on my site is spoken for come this weekend"

Maybe he meant to say that he was saving some inventory to take to a show.

If he was very nice to you, I would go with your first impression and give him the benefit of the doubt. Most dealers want to make their customers happy for two reasons: 1) so that they return to do more business and 2) just like in other service industries, making people happy is what makes you like your job or profession.

well i told him i wanted them . and was willing to pay. ive talked to him for months ( to get to know him and his way of things) this isnt what normally happens. but i think ill just find a real person whod want my money and my business any good suggestions of sellers here taht would be fair and not bad.

  • I know exactly what you are saying. You talked coins with this dealer and learning at the same time. He was pointing you toward a couple he thought you may be interested in and gave you no clue that they were not going to be available to you. Then when you took his heed on a coin and said I'll buy that one, plus a couple others (I'm reading that these were up on his site) he then told you they were sold or he was taking them to a weekend show. Is this what you are saying? I had a dealer do something to me along these lines and if I know what I know now I would have put his name up on this board and reported him to the ANA. BUT don't do something like I just said I would do unless you are 100% sure of your facts.
Please PM me with the dealer's name so I can stay away from him. There's too many good dealers to buy from instead of the too few bad ones.

I am not sure I understand...the dealer spent his time talking with you and teaching you and then informed you that the coins that you wanted to buy from his inventory were not available? I understand your disappointment, but my conclusion is not the same as yours.

Don't get upset lad. You'll have lots of chances to buy all the coins you want. There's a lot of this stuff around.
If you don't think so, try selling some of yours.

at the time i told him i wanted the coins they were still available to be bought he didnt have a person interested.

yes he did spend time with me to teach me and inform me in waht i should look for. then i saw something and he said it was forsale still so i told him which ones id buy . and now i get a note thats says no they are not forsale. and nothing on his site can be bought( cause hes off to a show). if he said they wasnt for sale the whole time id be ok with it. but why did he say yes they are forsale. i tell him which ill take i dont hear from him in 2 days and now i get they arent for sale

any good suggestions of sellers here (that) would be fair and not bad.

Almost all members fit into that category.....

Are you looking for raw or graded coins? How far back do you want to go, pre-19XX is pretty vague. Lincolns, IHC, Large cents, Jeff, Buffs, Liberty, etc...

I have all you need raw, few slabbed....my problem is I'm no expert grader & the time involve in putting a grade then a price to all these coinsimage

Back to your story, you say you had a money order already made, so did you offer to buy the coins & the dealer accepted the offer, then said he sold them OR were you 2 TALKING about the coins for 2 days when you said you wanted them and at that point he said he had sold them?

The other coins may not really be sold but rather he planned to take them to a weekend show, less hassles if he can sell them there.

I would probably see after the weekend if he actually sold off his entire inventory.

Also tell him how you feel, maybe he can get another coin for you.
Any reputable dealer would not knowing run off business.

I wasn't the dealer he referred to, but he wasted my time. I understand 100% why the dealer treated him the way he did! atarian probably wasted this dealer's time like he wasted all of our time last night.

  • Did you make him a firm offer and send him the money or were you "just talking"--there's a lot of differnce between the two. He's going to go with a firm offer--if you did that and he bailed on you then I agree there is a problem.

    atarian,

It would be easier to decipher your story if it was typed in English and not internetese.
