Tell me... how often do you hear about banks getting their servers hacked into? Banks take extreme precautions when it comes to the security of the servers. There is very limited access to the network from the internet. My dad works in the IT department at a Bank

Bingo. Call their corporate office, then if you really want something to happen, call a local reporter. You never know, they might run the story on a slow news day.

I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

Seriously, a letter to the bank's corporate office is in order. Not a vicious, angry one, but one that calmly tells the bank what you were up to. Of course, you should also ask for them to explain the policy that caused them confront you and kick you off the premises.
Who knows, you may get a nice letter back from some V.P. that you can show this guy next time!!!

See, that's why we should avoid bringing politics into this forum. We could have had a nice discussion about ways to cherrypick currency at banks, but it got political and look where it ended up.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Here in Chicago, most stores won't even give you change for the parking meters let alone let you sift through their cash drawers while paying customers wait.
part of all this is that danged 'patriot act' of a bunch of years ago . i work in a coin shop . i get paid by the owner with a check from his bank . i also happen to have an account with the same bank . i walk in and try to cash check . they want ID . i say , its an inhouse check from one account to another . they wont do it without 2 forms of ID , and will put a hold on any amount of my check that is greater than what's in my account . (and point to that darned Patriot Act sign on the counter) Scenario 2 . I walk in and present check for payment . they want ID, i show driver license , and tell them i dont use or have credit cards for ID . check is cashed , no hassle . moral of story , it's all paranoia ,money laundering worries , branch rules , managers that are power dweebs , out of mainstream transactions ,etc . perfect example . one day my boss made deposits to his account after a large show . the 5 or 6 thousand in checks didnt faze the teller . but about 1900 went in as cash , and the tellers remarks were wow, thats a lot of money . so much for debit and credit cards leading the way to a cashless society. thanks for venting

if any of you "intellectual" republicans fessed up to any of the constitutional crimes that your party committed, you concede to the fact that the patriot act has unrightfully and unnecessarily made personal transactions for everyday law-abiding citizens difficult and inconvient.

This WILL be my last post on politics on this board. I do apologize for stirring the s**t, because I do like to keep boards true to their form, but I really didn't think a minor Bush comment would cause such a disaster.
to live outside the law, you must be honest ---- bd
I can understand your surprise at finding out that there are people in the world who do not hold your same political beliefs. Most liberals, neomarxists, communists, collectivists or whatever you guys are actually admitting to being these days think that everyone must believe as they do. The notion that any intelligent person could actually hold differing political views just doesn't enter into their thought process. It's a rather elitist outlook that shows itself in short order on a number of subjects.
When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.

It's their bank and they can do as they please. You were making multiple transactions at different banks and you were not an account holder? You didn't pay any fees for anything? You were "buying" $2 bills from the bank? How much of a profit did the bank make? Or were you "exchanging" your money even steven for the bank's currency? The bank has the right to refuse service to anyone.
<< <i>Does the government think terrorists are really going to strike when the warning level is high? >>
Uh, no. That's one of the reasons for the system; to let the murdering scumbags know we're prepared. Give this man the second "duh" award for this thread.
Alan Greenspan is in charge of the Federal Reserve Bank System. George W. Bush did not even bring him on board.
Now re: the paranoia that has been stirred up by the banks due to 9-11.
More than half of the " new 9-11 rules" my clients' as well as my banks have touted are not even the rules of 9-11 at all!!
This is not to say that the Patriot Act is so great. In fact, I am against it and I am a Republican. Why? Can you Republicans just imagine what a Democrat in power would do "invested" with the powers sanctioned by the Patriot Act? Scary, huh?
Now down to serious business, I have discovered that the "9-11 rules" promulgated by the banks have in fact been more often than not, rules the banks are making on their own without any legal backing to it. Most of the rules are being made to generate more fees or to cut down costs.
Just one example: I walk into a bank and they tell me "due to 9-11 I can no longer put my account number on the back of the check to ensure that no one other than my bank will NOT know who is depositing the funds." So I went to deposit other checks to another account at another bank without the account number and they said no-no you must NOW put the account number on the back on the check when depositing it. I asked if this a NEW rule? (knowing that it was an OLD rule), "Oh yes, Mr. Oreville, this is a new rule due to 9-11 and here is the printed rule at our bank!"
Geez. I think Mr Greenspan better get to work and get the banks back to what they should be doing (banking business) instead of pontificating on interest rates. He is not minding the administrative end of his job.
To me, there is currently utter chaos in the banking industry since the banks are spending more time selling insurance and stocks instead of sticking to their original business of banking. In this regard, I do think the 1933 Glass Steagall Act should be reinstituted.
A little piece of history: As a result of the Great Depression and a chaotic banking system, the 1933 Glass Steagall Act was passed originally to separate banks from insurance companies and investment firms. This was the famous firewall that protected us since 1933 and is being dismantled as we speak.
