Is This From Ebay or a Scam?

Just got this email and it looks awfully fishy, this is one of those scams right??

Dear eBay customer,

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your billing information.

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information ( i.e.change of address).
2. Submiting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our processors.

Please update and verify your information by clicking the link below:

If your account information is not updated within 48 hours then your ability to sell or bid on eBay will become restricted.

Kenneth Pavet,

eBay Safe Harbour Dpt .

Whenever you get a fishy email like this, forward it with headers to:

    spoof@ebay.com

Every one I have forwarded has been responded to telling me it did not originate from eBay.

<< <i>Every one I have forwarded has been responded to telling me it did not originate from eBay. >>

That's a form reply, I believe. Someone here said they sent a bid confirm or something like that, and it was said not to have originated from eBay...

  • Never click on a e-mail link unless you are possitive who it's from.

If in doubt log into your eBay account and check your info.

    It's a certifiable Proof 70 D-SCAM.

Any time you get something like this, if you don't feel right about completely ignoring it, to DIRECTLY to the web site (i.e. www.paypal.com, www.ebay.com) and check on the status there. Never click a link directly IN the e-mail; if it's legit you can do whatever it is they are asking you to do by entering the web site directly.

And scams will say "dear eBay user" and "deal PayPal customer" and that sort of thing. Using your actual name in the e-mail is no guarantee that it's legit, but NOT doing so is evidence of a scam.

That one has been around for a while. It probably has a virus imbedded as well. Outlook won't allow me to forward the emails due to the virus. Most of these emails I recieve go to an email account that isn't and never has been part of my ebay account. I don't think I've ever gotten a scam email to the address associated with my account.

  • Is it true you can tell whare a link will actually take you by just moving your mouse over it and looking at the toolbar at the bottem (at least on my computer) of the screen? It seems from experience to be true but I dont know if that is something you can fake.
  • I'm with Eric. I've sent so many from "eBay" and Paypal I have the spoof addy in my address book.
