Ok so I'm trying to decide if this IHC is slab worthy or not. Any comments are welcome.

If it goes 64R, you've spent about 15% of the coin's value on plastic (not including postage). Probably not worth it. If it goes 65R (I'm not an IHC guy, so I can't tell you), it would be worth it.

That middle picture doesn't go with the other two image

As for what Barry said... there's a take on value (I won't comment on that), but I will say I doubt it will go MS65RD because of the hit on the cheek and the overall chatter. Looks like a very PQ MS63RD (if the graders are having a really bad day), likely MS64RD.

Send it to ANACS. I don't see it as any better than MS64, probably Red but possibly only Red-Brown. You want it slabbed because raw copper is now VERY suspect.

I like the strike & color & you'll get a RD designation. I'm not an IHC guy, but TPGs are hard on small coins with contact marks. IMO, if the image is true, you'll get a 3 RD if it's sent to PCGS. The coin has an eye-catching contact mark on the upper cheekbone. and chatter on the lower jaw as well as below the TE in STATES and the front end of LIBERTY. The chatter in the open areas and on ONE CENT on the reverse is consistent with the chatter on the obverse.

When I used to know sheet pricing on IHCs, slabbing only made sense for 65 RDs.

Thanks for all the input. I bought it for 64 money and I think it is a 64 but not worth the risk to try for a 65.

These from the 90's are tough! A 64rd would be worth a lot more than the %15 grading fee, but why pay a fee unless you want to sell it. It looks 64rd to me but I think pcgs has been extra tough lately so a 63 would be possible. Also, we've had lots of people being annoyed with what looks to be original red Indians being not graded for altered color. I too had a raw 1880 I thought was original and would be ms65rd but I showed it to Rick Snow who said altered color. I paid 64rd money for that.

Thanks mheffner2. IMHO my picture skills are patethic. I'm using a sony mavica digital camera with the optional close-up lens. It does give a good picture but I have never worked with any lighting to get better results.

I would send it in as an economy submission to PCGS. I'm pretty sure the Rd designation would be a given and a 64 at the very least.
