OK, I know we've been down this road before...

I just opened up the box where I keep my ICCS coins, and man...there was a stink like I just opened a fresh crate of shower curtains!

That can't be good, right? I just can't seem to find the cajones to liberate the coins from their "slabs," though.

Talk to me, people!

I've found that a little soap and water gets the smell off real well. image

Send them to me. I happen to have the cajones to liberate them.

I might be wrong about this, but I think the outside portion of the ICCS holder contains PVC, but the inside part doesn't. Anyone?
  • I understand your feelings, but set the coins free and give them a gentle rinse in acetone. If the PVC damage is not too bad, the acetone should remove it and/or prevent more damage to the coin. I prefer to leave a coin in the original "container" it was issued in, but when I have to weigh the consequences of either leaving the coin in a PVC container (the issue container), or setting it free and rinsing it with acetone, then no contest (although a difficult choice anyway). the acetone does not remove toning or otherwise damage the coin.

Lately, I have been going through my coin collection looking for any coins with this very problem. Now I need to go buy some more acetone. image

  • As far as I know (aka stuff that remember from this forum) the inner ICCS holder is made of inert material.

Yes, the inner holder is inert, but the proximity to the PVC gives me the williesimage

Uh...I'm not certain if the holder material is inert, but I AM certain that I don't want to know all the "little" details regarding your willie! What were you thinking? image
