    It's PL at best and 63. I can't believe it got $900.
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?

  • The really sad thing is the number of potential new collectors who get burned and drop out forever. We all had a learning period but some of these guys really get burnt. I have enough experience in the field now where I will buy a coin in any state, raw, slabbed by ACG, PCI, NGC, PCGS, etc. but I know what I am buying and pay accordingly. Alot of these newbies just don't get it and are lost forever.image

    Anyway, have a GREAT evening!

  • WOW, i guess i just missed the boat. My 1878-s looks better than that and all mine is is a PCGS MS63. You would think i should know better. image

For someone who sells Acucrap, that seller's return policy is very troublesome.
    I brake for ear bars.
  • The seller has over 20 years experience in the coin industry. He probably does really well too. He just sold a $40 coin for $900. Unfortunately, my conscience would get the best of me if I started doing stuff like that. For one thing, I don't think I could ever fork over $40 for that coin in the first place.

Sometimes, money and coin collectors don't mix very well. This might be one of those times..... image
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • For a long time I wouldn't buy a Morgan doller I was so afraid of being ripped off. I finally bought a couple and they both happened to be PCGS MS65. I bought them because of the way the coin looked. The buyer in the above auction is getting ripped off for several hundred dollers. Hope fully it isn't a coin he plans on making money on.

  • I don't feel sorry for these buyers anymore. The internet is too large and the information is out there. Any search on concluded auctions on Morgan DMPLs would have showed this buyer that the coin in question did not look like some of the other DMPLs that had been sold in the past.

Interesting - it looks like the underbidder likes to buy nearly all of his coins from that particular seller - must be just a coincidence image

???? This almost looks like a fake ACG slab! The shell is definitely an ACG style slab but the fonts used on the labels do not match anything I've ever seen on an ACG slab. It is most similar to ACG 25. ACG 26 uses a different layout on the labels. It might be thought to be a previously unseen variety produced between those two except for the fact that ACG 25 and ACG 26 both use the same font styles.

But why would someone fake an ACG slab?

Well, when I read your first paragraph, this was going to be *my* question to you -- but apparently, you had the same idea. image
