If those grades are all correct, I'd probably slab all but the 1926 Peace Dollar. Did he do the grading, or did you?

I've never heard of the person, and I hope he's a dealer, rather than a telemarketer type outfit.

Before you slab, though, take the coins to a dealer to be looked at, or at least provide us with photographs of the coins.

  • You might want to take some good scans or pics and post them here to get opinions on the grades before you slab them.

I agree with your analysis. PCGS is the way to go, IMHO. Also, if they're really nice, you may also want to slab the proof nickels

I've heard of him. The name rings a bell, anyway. (Don't worry- it's not a warning bell!) I couldn't tell you anything about him but I am positive I have heard the name.

Sounds like some nice stuff. Perhaps all worthy of submission.

I would do them all if I was going to sell them in a sight unseen manner such as ebay.
Split up any worth less than $300 and use economy for those.

Bruce dealt in some VERY nice coins and has been affiliated with PCGS, I believe as both a founder and a part time grader. He is also a wonderful and very witty writer, having put out some excellent numismatic newsletters.

I believe he was a co-founder of PCGS. I would slab them all.

I don't normally say that, but you have some nice coins and who knows what they may be graded today compared to 1983.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Thank you all for your advice. Bruce Amspacher is one of the founders of PCGS and is the top writer for Coin Universe. Mr. Amspacher became a dealer in 1957 and is credited with coining many of the terms now used to describe U.S. coins

I think I would send them all in.
You might want to get your pictures taken first.
The slab should help the sell price.image

    Hey Granddad,

I'll bet you have some really nice coins there and wish you the best of luck getting strong prices for them. I'd consign them to Heritage for auction and probably slab all of them.

Bruce used to catalogue Kingswood Coin Auction catalogues & would give lot consultations when this entity was under the Coin Universe Wing. He knows his coins.

I'd slab everything you want to sell. For most people, a raw rare coin is a problem coin & you'll have a hard time getting what it is worth unless it is in either a PCGS or NGC slab. Before the sale, let us know the grades & people will suggest venues to sell these coins, along with reasons why they prefer the venue(s) they list.

I can save you the grading fees on this one and just buy it raw!

Seriously -- if this as nicely toned as you say I would love to have a shot at this coin. I'm doing a toned-only Peace $ Registry Set and would like to upgrade my current coin.

    Please let me know.

It would be interesting if you could get his opinion on their grades again today BEFORE you send any off!!
