Funny- so far, in every round I voted in (think I missed one or two), the coin I voted out was the one that went.
I voted for Draped Bust.... Hey! What happened to the Gobrecht?????
<< <i>Even though I still say the Peace $ got a raw deal. >>
I couldn't agree more!
<< <i>I wish there was a better picture of the trade dollar.... why don't you substitute the one in my sig line? >>
Wouldn't make any difference, I still voted for the Trade Dollar!
Arghh... my Trades are a goner!
One other thing I don't understand is how someone could think the trade dollar is ugly. Oh well. My opinion is clearly not the popular one (like high school all over again)
Bring back Peace, Bring back Morgan, get rid of Seated and get rid of Trade !!!
I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.
Always looking for nice type coins

Maybe next round.

On to the races...
Firstly, the US Mint. The new cointage we have been seeing is a very nice touch but you have to get in line early to get what you want...like buy on the release date. They have a site so if you want mint issues you can bookmark their site and keep up with it. Their stuff is pricey but it's not going to be cheaper unless you have a bank buddy. It would be hard to argue that they dont have nice things.
Outstanding contest on the dollars with the exception of the Goebrecht! flowing hair and draped designs are exceptional...post colonial design of an independent nation, the foundation of all that is to follow in our coinage (I'm thinking morgan here). Very interesting and important coin from a historical perspective. I know they are not the same but only one of these two can survive this forum so go ahead and pick it now. Lose the flowing hair, the draped is so much more sophisticated and should see the final round...very nice coin particularly with those D's.
Or, we could go ahead and lose the seated now. Certainly one of our most wonderful dollars...much sought after, delicious design, nice strikes but the appeal of this coin to me is the shield device. The device is very distinctive and it is one of the nicest shields that you will find on any U S coin, particularly with that ladies hand draped across the corner. Very nice indeed but...
That would leave us with the trade dollar...very nice discussion made in the forum about being mostly a bullion coin and not really intended for general circulation in the US. The coin is for commerce...an interesting decision by the mint at the time...well coordinated with the direction our agricultural country was taking as an emerging international player. Very complicated detail, much like the standing liberty quarter that appeared later. It is difficult to try and pick this coin as anything but the finalist with the draped bust. After that i suspect there will be some very interesting arguements in here.
Lose the flowing hair...sadly.
P.S. "dont worry if your hair is turning grey...begin worrying when it starts to turn loose!"
<< <i>The masses have spoken. Give the Trade dollar what she has coming to her and let's move on to Round 8. >>
So they have, so lets do that.
