Hard to tell from the pics......maybe cleaned...maybe overdipped.
    I wouldn't bid/buy.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Maybe the mint just did a sloppy job with lettering in 1891...... maybe I just need some sleep.....

Just looks like a poor quality pic intended to reveal nothing about the coin. Whenever I see a "MS" "DMPL" Morgan I wonder why it's not in a slab.

IMHO: dipped, dipped again, whizzed, washed, polished, whatever.image

Please enlighten me as to how you reached these "opinions" based on this scan? Funny, after down loading and enlarging the image on Photoshop, I can't see any whizzing marks or polishing marks. The scan shows a coin that may be AU rather than MS. May be an AU PL. It may even be whizzed and dipped but the quality of the scan is not good enough to judge the true surfaces of this coin.

Edited to add: If you can buy it for $20 you will probably get a $5 coin; but that's what buying raw coins on ebay is all about isn't it.
  • Hi,

    Does it look funky, yes.

As for why... it could simply be that the seller did not take a photograph of the coin and instead scanned it using a flat bed scanner.

Scanners never seem to capture the luster of a silver coin, ever. They nearly always turn out gray, milkly looking... even blazzzzzzzzzzzers look flat when scanned.

I'll scan copper and ancient bronze coins however... for silver, I always take a photos.
