He is still a thankless mealy mouthed dork who spits on the the game that makes him millions. Pretty good player, nonetheless.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

I just noticed that Bonds is also close (maybe a few years) to closing in on 3000 hits.

At his current hit rate, he wouldn't reach 3000 until some time in 2007. I doubt he'd stick around that long, but anything's possible with this guy.

would have gotten that years ago
had all those managers not been SO AFRAID of him
that they gave him thousands of Walks!

and I guess that Babe Ruth sucks too since HE did not get 3000 hits either?

    (nice try though...)

Anyone who denies the strict probability that Bonds is taking some sort of performance enhancing substance is simply blind.

No, taking steroids alone won't give you the ability to hit major league pitching. What it will do is make those fly outs you normally hit to the outfield fly out of the park.

Do those defending him not see that prior to his 73 HR run, the most HR he had hit was 49 (which was the season before), and before that was 46 way back in 1993? Doesn't anyone see that a 50% boost in HR's from your CAREER best when you were 37 YEARS OLD?

He has been personally linked to the entire BALCO fiasco, his trainer is a known, close associate with BALCO, and many people have come out and said that yes, they witnessed his trainer receive steroids from BALCO.

Couple that with the marked increase in his hat size (another known steroid side affect), his associates with BALCO, and his performance from 37 on (when 99.9% of athletes decline dramatically in the same period), and you get an overwhelming number of people who believe that he is as guilty as OJ.

Those too blind to see the truth will never see it; those who believe that he is innocent will believe it until their dying days, even after it comes out how much he cheated.

The fact he is a jerk of the highest order (and always has been), you get a public who doesn't really care what he does. Wasn't it ironic how little his 73rd HR ball sold for? I remember it being in the 400,000s.

They interviewed some people at the Brewers game, asking what they'd do if they caught his 700th HR. Only one person said they'd sell it. I know I would...no way I'd give it back to that guy. I'd make my money and have a laugh in his general direction.

  • << <i>Bonds has 6 MVP awards, no one else has more than 3!!

Any slow down from Rolen, and Bonds will get a 7th award!!

Bonds team isn't bad like Stalin said. They were in 1st place just a few days ago. they may even be back, I haven't looked. They actually have been one of the hotter teams in baseball the last month.

    Bonds is on the leaderboards. He is 1st in avg (.365 ), 1st in OBP % ( .628 ), 1st in OPS ( 1.421 ), 1st in walks ( 131 ), 1st in slugging % ( .794 ), 3rd in homers (23), and 3rd in runs ( 71 ).

Stalin - you need to get the facts and stats before you make it sound like he isn't on the leaderboards, and his team is bad. You were way off on both accounts as proven by me.

Remember, even if you want to accuse him of steroids, he won 3 of the MVP awards before the year 2000, and finished 2nd to Jeff kent one other year. That alone puts him in the same breath as Williams, Mantle or whomever it was that won no more than 3 MVP awards.

He has more runs ( 71 ), then hits so far ( 69 ). That is an amazing stat!!

Opposing pitchers and managers are literally petrified of this guy. 68 IBB's already? Unbelievable.

I think he is the greatest ever right now, but once his career is over, he will have so many more records. Nobody was better statistically in so many categories. He'll even finish the year out as a career .300 hitter.

Give him even half of those 68 intentional walks back this year, and he is hitting over .400 with 30+ homers right now. I truly believe that. He's that good. And at age 40. Pretty embarrassing for those younger guys, huh? More than likely they won't even be able to play as long as Bonds has/will.

Pujols is good, but he's just over .300 so far, 22 HR, 60 RBI. Double that for the next halk, and his stats look just like many others will, maybe even less RBI's. His cards are really overrated right now. Maybe I should just say OVERPRICED.

Those are the stats. They are facts. No arguing with them unless you are a moron.

Currently Bonds has less Homeruns, RBI's, total bases, lower On base percentage, lower batting average, less hits, and a bunch more "lower tha" or "less thans" than Babe Ruth.....but he does have MORE AT-BATS!! By 1000 or more I believe. So how can you possibly think he is better than Babe Ruth?!?!? I did not even have to mention Ruth's World Series and playoff hitting stats, and his career as a great lefty pitcher who went 3-0 in the WS for Boston and started the longest game ever for a pitcher in the WS at 16 innings, and he got the win.

Babe Ruth simply changed the game of baseball forever. He re-wrote the record books and TWICE he hit more homeruns by himslef than every other team in his leage combined...TWICE!!! For Bonds to do that today he would need to hit over 300 Homers in one season. Even with all his "enhancing drugs" he won't do that. This all simply shows how far above his peers that Ruth was. He was a GIANT among boys. Bonds is not even the best player in the league (A-Rod is). He plays in the outfield and is lazy on defense. Plus he is a cancer to the Giants. Most of the players on his team hate him because his attitude sucks and some pitchers don't even retaliate for him when he gets hit by opposing pitchers. Wonder why.

As for MVP's..so what!! They are awards that you win from voting. Ruth only has one MVP because back in his day you were only allowed to win one. They changed the rules since then...so don't try using that lame MVP stuff......

Just be REALISTIC man. You live in the ESPN era where we get to see a Bonds homerun in his tiny ballpark all the time but we never saw Ruth dominate MLB so you think Bonds is the best ever.

Be OBJECTIVE and it will be clear. Bonds is ONE of the greatest players of all-time. ONE OF.......even after being named by another pro athlete as being a steroid user, he is still ONE of the greatest.....

He does not compare to Ruth at all.......you are the Moron if you think he does. Go find one respected baseball historian that will agree with you and I will pay 100 bucks......
  • If you look at the TOTAL PACKAGE (Offensive Stats, Defensive Stats, Awards, dependability as a team player, etc.) I think you will see that it will be hard for Barry Bonds to ever get considered one of the Top 5 players of all-time.

He will forever be linked to the steroid scandal and it will always hurt his image in the eyes of baseball historians. Not to mention the small ballparks and juiced balls.

So they walk him a lot. Big deal. They did it to Ruth too. Bonds has more walks you say than Ruth? Well okay, but he also has over 1000 at-bats also...so he SHOULD HAVE MORE WALKS.

Baseball is a TEAM GAME, it's not always about how many homeruns Bonds can hit in a game...Fans forget that a lot, esepcially in San Francisco where winning the pennent takes a back seat to the Barry Bonds show. The guy doesn't even sit or stretch with his own teammates. What a joke. How people can say he is the best is amazing to me. Wake up already.
  • Oh yea I forgot to mention Playoff Stats as part of the TOTAL PACKAGE.

Bonds did real well the last few seasons but he did so bad back on the Pirates (before his steroid days) that his career PLAYOFF numbers are still less than average. So it that area he trails Ruth by miles....and that is the are that should count the MOST. How you perform in the pressure situations of the playoffs and World Series.

Ruth has what? 9 WS appearances and 7 WS titles...something like that. And he was a major contributor.

Bonds has how many WS titles? 0...with below average playoff stats.......
