Grading opinions wanted on a Buffalo 5¢

Just wondering what the experts would grade this one...the only concern I have is the strike, though I don't know if this is a typical, above avg, or below avg. strike for the date (the books are en route as we speak)...I've angled the lighting to exaggerate the few hits that do exist...

The red streaks you see are artifacts apparantly, because I don't see them on the coin itself.

Im no expert...but i would say supurb strike, but alot of contact marks on revers...prob. a 64

Ditto. Look at the difference in color in the reverse and obverse.

The streaks could be planchet streaks, which are fairly common on Buffs. Sometimes a camer will pick up things that are hard to see with the naked eye. Especially color variations.

I believe that the strike is very typical for 1913 type II, as koynekwest stated. The color doesn't bother me much. I believe the piece looks original. I believe this coin could go MS65.

I would guess the grade as an MS63 or 64. Definately looks MS to me. If you want a better struck coin, have patience. There are a few of this date that display a full, sharp strike-almost as sharp as a proof. They CAN be found with some searching.

Looks like a typical 1913 T2 to me. (The weakness of strike can be way worse.) Looks like a probable MS64 to me.

Looks 63 to me, if it goes 64, there are better 64's to get...

I think the strike is average at best...just look at the buffalo's shoulder. I'm assuming that the marks are from the planchet not being fully struck out. Even if those are contact marks, the rest of the coin's details don't seem that crisp.

And I agree that the coin has more of a dipped or AU luster...I can't really tell. Maybe it's just the picture.

I'm not surprised. I thought it was a terrific looking coin, and I didn't see any rub anywhere. Nice sharp horn. Ribbon on the braid is fine. And coins can certainly tone differently on different sides! It may have been in an album for a while, where the sulfur could tone the reverse while leaving the obverse white. Very nice fields, especially on the obverse.

Wow! While I love/loved the luster, I'm still a little surprised. Great pickup none the less.

I was going to say 64+. The strike is commonly weaker on the 13 ty2, especially on the buffalo's shoulder. It also is not uncommon for the obverse and reverse to have different coloration like this. I have seen it on many original coins. Great score on the grade!
