I wonder how long someone could grade Jefferson nickels.

Can't you see it? It's the ......GRADING ROOM !

(You can't grade here, this is a GRADING room) sorry.....Strangelove flashback.

Anyhow. Guy comes to work. Sits down. Is handed a Jefferson nickel. Grades it. Puts it in envelope. Takes another. Another Jefferson nickel. Is it a 67 or 68? Make decision. Grade it. Take another.....JEFFERSON NICKEL.......do it again. 450 coins later, take break. Candy machine gives a JEFFERSON NICKEL in change. Absentmindedly grade it and head for bathroom. Come back to grading room. Take another JEFFERSON NICKEL......grade it. 450 coins later, take break. Go to phone book. Look up Beretta dealers. Make mental note of magazine capacity. Go grade some more JEFFERSON NICKELS.

Go to lunch. Talk to waitress. Ask how day is going. She tells him her boyfriend left and expenses are NICKEL and diming her to death.

Return from lunch. Grade some JEFFERSON NICKELS.

Go home. Dream......of..........................................???????????

HOW do they do it?

Simple. It's their job. If they don't like it, they can do something else. image

I guess I am missing something here... the grader didn't dream of the hot waitress?

...kinda out there topstuf, but after personally grading bags and bags and rolls and rolls of Jeffs, I think I know where you are coming from.

You know, it could be hard with any series, even the one you love. First, you have to grade fast. Second, always on the watch for counterfeits. Also, what happens when you see a whole lot of MS-69s and suddenly you see an MS-64? Do you radically undergrade it or overgrade it? Or are you good enough to properly grade it. When I go to coin shows, I like to look through boxes of PCGS coins and just test myself.

But I'd love to spend a week just grading Seated Liberty coins. I WOULD dream of that.

Girls are terrific, I love them all the way, but just once in a great while I do dream of 19th century coins.

I cant imagine anybody who works for a grading service that doesnnt want to be thier. Secondly, at 240k a year, it makes it even better.

Well... according to a recent newsletter, not ALL of the Jeffersons are being looked at before they're graded. . . image

A lady worked in my Dad's factory in Ohio for THIRTY YEARS...Her job was to assemble the SAME 3 parts. She was always in a good mood...and at her retirement party stated "God, I'm going to miss my job!"

Some people not only like repeatition - They depend on it!

Are all of the PCGS graders about equally good for most or all series?

I feel the same way for any of the modern stuff. I'd lose my brain if I had to grade that material every day.

I always think when the services get one of my invoices they must breathe a little sigh of relief...."finally, OLD coins image" )

Although, on my last invoice I actually had a Franklin (cool toner) AND a Roosie (another cool toner, FT too!) that I submitted.

    Scary stuff. image
