Why should it - it's only a die crack - granted that's rare for proofs, but I don't think the Red or Black books are about to document every single last die crack - especially on moderns.

  • Proof die cracks are not expected since they are inspected. However, die cracks are more common on business coinage since they are not inspected, and are released to the public.

True cracks on proofs are not expected but they do exist and are not really that rare as a group. An one specific one may be rare because they are quickly noticed, the die pulled, and any examples identified destroyed. But if you simply want a proof coin with a die crack just start looking through sets and you will find one eventually. If the Redbook wanted to picture a dramatic example though they would probably be more likely to use on the "Spiked" head pieces that hav made the news over the past couple years than the PMM.
  • Wow, I am glad I have found three of those spiked head proofs, also. Why don't as many proof error coins make it into the Red, and Black books as compared to the business struck coins????
