A good place to sell

coins that I've collected over the years. I have about 90 Morgan date and mint marked dollars (mostly MS 62+, key dates, CC's, etc.) and 30+ bust halves that I've collected along with a number of early commemorative halves (MS 63+). Based on CoinWorld's Trends I'm only talking about $8 to 10K. What dealers do you think would the best to contact to sell to this collection to? I'm really not interested in selling on Ebay, etc. I'd like to get rid of a very bulky collection and end up with a set of 5 or 6 very nice coins that will have some long term value and will be liquid for my heirs. Hope this isn't OT

  • I would recommend a check a few smaller dealers in a lightly populated area in a town less than 150,000.
This sound strange but as a small town dealer I can't get enough good stuff and willing to pay a fair or even a higher price.
Large town dealers get so much offered thay don't need to pay as much. Although you have to be careful either way.
I'm in contol of my own losses.

  • If you have a list, you could post the list on the Buy, Sell, & Trade - Coins forum. If any of them are certified, you will have no problem unloading them for good prices.

Well based on yer numbers yer only talkin about $110 per coin on average for the 90 Morgans so yu mite get $5K from a dealer and probly less if they are raw. I would suggest you list them on the Buy Sell & Trade board here. Since its free to list you caint beat that price with a stick.

  • Everything is either ANACS, NGC, PCGS or PCI. I appreciate your input--and am not trying to sell on this board--I just want suggestions.

I hope not a lot PCI...the rest are good. I would take it to dealers get a few quotes. Why not sell on board...I promise its the safest place to sell. If you dont like the dealers quotes...try here...then ebay!
  • I would give Alpine Numismatic a go. They can purchase outright or on consignment. They have a strong collector buying base who keep David Olmstead in high cotton. Turnover of inventory is quite rapid especially for PCGS and NGC material. This not the place for problem coins, however.

I would suggest my local dealer of course. PM me if you need more details. He would be happy to talk to you about them.

  • There are a few good buyers here. Send a PM to Michael Dixon or Darin (BigD5). There are also folks who take coins and sell them for you on eBay.

Go to the authorized pcgs dealer page and see if any are close to you and give them a call.

Selling to a dealer might be convenient but you are probably going to be getting less money that way vs. eBay or Heritage.

  • I would be pleased to assist you.

I will buy outright for cash or consign and sell for you.

If you could send me a list of the exact coins you have
    we can start from there.
