Looking for Populations on Minted Proof-Mercs

Where Might I find the number of how many Proof Merc Dimes were minted? Is there a web-site? Must I purchase a book? Thanks in advance from Mike

    Mike,

    I've never seen a non-FB Proof Merc ...

also ... welcome ... and maybe turn your PM function ON so you can take messages off the post image

I have seen some non-FB Proof Mercury dimes but they are the rare exception, rather than the rule.
  • Looks like we are all in agreement on the mintage figures!

These are one of my favorite coins - I have a sweet lil 7-coin set in mixed
    PCGS/NGC holders.

I saw a '41 or '42 PR65 ebay coin just the other day on a thread here that had
    nearly flat bands.

I just jumped in to help, and learned something new. If I ever add the Proofs to my set, I'll make sure to watch those bands!

    Thanks Mark image

I think it's notable that proof Lincoln's from this time period are also found with weak strikes. They look as if they were struck by dies that have been over polished.

  • Thank you to everyone. What is my PM function?? Even at my old age, I sure don't know everything! I'm still trying to figure out how to download pic's.
  • My favorite proof merc doesn't have split bands. It is a 1942.

"PM" stands for private message, whereby you can send and receive private messages to and from other forum members.

To enable this feature click on "profile" on the upper right part of your screen. Scroll down and you will see an option to "allow private messages" then click "on".
  • Thanks Mark............I'll try it when I get back in town tomorrow!

Does anyone know if those figures represent coins sold, or is it possible that the figures include unsold coins that got melted? I'm pretty sure that for the 1916 and earlier proofs, the mintages weren't reduced by the number that went unsold.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
