Anyone carry a GOLD pocket piece? Here's mine!

Liberty Double Eagle, use to say 1873 on the obverse now only say's 187....... Looking closely at reverse, there's a few details but so faint they don't even show up in this picture!

  • Craig, that's cool! You should submit it to PCGS so that you can own a "Pop 1" double eagle. image

If you sold it for bullion would the dealer weigh it because of the wear ?

I would not weigh it, but I would adjust the price to compensate for the wear.

When you wear that hat you may as well wear a shirt that says "Mug Me" image

    Craig:

Even after the last digit wore out it still looks like the type II LIberty 1866-1876. Great coin!

Get it slabbed and work on the next one!

I saw a rare, never aired episode of Gunsmoke. Festus Hagen used that coin to buy a few hours with Miss Kitty in an upstairs room at the Longbranch Saloon.image

PCGS is persnickety and pesky when it comes to a MintMark. No indications of what the MM may possibly be and they won't holder it!

    sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    a "classic" pocket piece

    seen many like it

when i was a kid many old time dealers and collectors had something similar as their pocket piece either a silver dollar or twenty dollar gold!

let me guess it took around 10? years to get it to look like that??

Pat is right.........send this coin to PCGS and I'd end up with a refund as they couldn't determine the MM......P, S , or CC...can't tell any more. Its just a pocket piece and that's all it ever will be.....course it will more and more faint as time goes by! One day, it will be just a two-sided slick and no one will ever even know it was a No Motto Liberty! Just a gold slug........if I live that long! <grin>

I only wear it on the bourse floor at major shows. There are usually a bunch of beefy guys in uniforms, carrying guns, at the door. I don't think they'd look too kindly on a mugging. image
