“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

I care.
It matters if I say it does.

That's strange. I asked for Kennedy short sets, and they were up a couple weeks later.

Not really - For the pattern nickels I collect, I think something like 50%-75% of the "series" is unobtainable unless the Smithsonian and a number of other museums decide to sell. So, the concept of "building a complete set" is a non-issue.
Does it matter?? Not really. It would simply mean that every day I would have to stare at a screen showing me all the coins I do not have and also have virtually zero possibility of ever obtaining.
Which brings up an interesting possibility I would like to address with some of the other pattern guys -
SHOULD THE PATTERN REGISTRY LIST PATTERN COINS ONLY IF THERE HAS BEEN A SINGLE COIN (OR MORE) GRADED AT PCGS AND/OR NGC? Where a particular pattern is yet ungraded at either service (and may never been graded), should the registry exclude a listing for those until an actual coin is available to the public in one of the company holders? Thoughts?

I think they definately should be listed whether or not one has ever been slabbed - same with colonials where this is a similar issue.
I was just thinking about this the other day when I was reviewing the PCGS coin number look-up and came across all of the colonials in the Redbook - including a bunch with 1 or 2 known tops and zero slabbed so far - that are listed by PCGS.
If its a coin, and it has a PCGS (or NGC) number, I think it should be listed in the registry.

Here, probably not. Try across the street they might listen.
Yes.
Not in the grand scheme of things.

I guess we are going to have to wait til they finish individual year sets all the way back to 1793!?
I wonder if they will have a set for the 1859 Indian head cent? Actually there would be 3 potential sets there. 1859 Indian head cent circulation strike/ 1859 Indian head proof strike and of course the combined set

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Just kidding.
