After about 14 months with my coins locked in my safe I finally got the combo (and the key). My safe is in the basement and moistures a problem. Well I have a a few packs of some dehumidifier cyrstals or whatever. I opened the safe and to my suprise the thing was soaking. The staples on 2x2's were rusty, the cardboard was wet and it even got in to some cheap flat packs of mine. It corroded a blue proof nickle of mine aswell and the frankie which is now spotted green. Luckily I dont have very much raw copper and my other coins were for the most part slabbed. It didnt cost me much but it sure is annoying. And to my question, where can I buy more dehumidifying packets?

I'm using a fire proof safe without without any issues... however; mine is not in the basement... I think the main reason you had a problem was the location of the safe.
Perhaps a different location above the water line would be better, also... I do open my safe a look at my coins often... I recall reading that helps too.
Did the coins in the slabs fair okay???

Oh and should modern proofs, commems, and whitman 2x2 holders be "safe" from moisture damage in my fireproof safe?
