1890 CC - Update: Picture

I've found this on ebay. What do you think? It has a BIN for $199.

Updated as of June 29th. I just received this today. I dont see an serious rim dings, and looking at it in hand, I dont see any cleaning. It is definately AU, but it has some great lustre and "wow" 60-like detail.

Sure looks BU, but I bet it is really an AU. If so then not a good deal. I would only buy a coin like that certifed on ebay. jmo

Tough to tell by that pic...It's too small.
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • Hi,

The pix are really too small to make an honest opinion... the golden toning looks good but... there's not as much luster as there should be in the high condition it's in.

Tough to tell in a photo and very hard to tell from the micro pix… a little suspicious, honestly, it might just be my monitor but, I really can't see the CC on the obverse.

Could you post a link to the auction? Is the seller in good standing, is there a money back guarantee, good feedback, etc?

    Anthony

Looks like an honestly graded coin to me. Can't really tell if the coin has been cleaned, but the seller offers a return policy. Current greysheet bid for AU50 is 145, ask 160. If you need this date, may be worth the gamble. All you'll be out is the shipping if you return it.

Considering that a decent 63 will now cost you over $700, if you are on a tight budget I think this one may do well. Be sure to let us know what you think when you get it.

One more thing, when you get the coin go over it closely. Look for any serious rim dings, and any hints of cleaning. If it doesn't have either, you did very well.

Possible light cleaning, but I think it will slab around AU55 at pcgs. By the time you get the coin back, you should be right on the money.

    keep us posted.

I don't know Al, it is very hard to tell if a coin has been cleaned with a scan. With that breast feather definition, easy AU58 if it has not been cleaned.

    agreed. I believe it's a 58, but if it's been lightly cleaned, I'll go with 55....

Could very well be a 62...I've seen both sharp/weak strike 90cc....this date is also pretty common in pl. I currrently own 4 at the moment...all PL or DMPL between MS61-64. The 90cc is one of my favorites.

    Eric,
here's one right up your alley......awesome gold toning around 100% of the obverse periphery, and 70% of the rev.

The coin is fully dmpl. pic sucks though, sorry:

That looks nice. I think for the $199, he did fine on that coin. I'm sure glad I bought a nice MS example last year before the prices went out of sight.
