1968 vs. 1969 opc hockey battles

Last week we talked about two guys going
after 1968 opc commons (with a third guy who jumps in when he's in the mood a.k.a. "third man in").

However the 1969 opc battle has 9 guys who with the flick off a mouse can
wage some war.
Last night a tough #5 common psa 8 1/1 went for 350.00

Many of the guys who drop the gloves have to take nights off just to
heal their wounds.

So cast your vote for the most entertaining battle.

1968 ?
1969 ?

In my opinion the 1968 is like O'Reilly vs. Gillies

The 1969 is a flat out bench clearing brawl.

  • My vote is for 1969. With the scarcity of Series one cards it is amazing to see what some of those cards go for. It is nice to see hockey cards getting more attention now too.
  • The only thing i hope is that the most entertaining battles aren't for 1971's image
  • I hear ya there. Things are heating up for this set too and are starting to get a little pricey.
  • That buyer of the #5 Tremblay in PSA 8 is close to finishing off his set, so sometimes, price paid is secondary for the final few cards.
There are only two cards graded, and my PSA 7 of Tremblay cost me $16 CAD for grading. So $350 USD for a PSA 8, vs $10 USD for a PSA 7?

Furthermore, as a result, we won't be offered any more high quality raw cards by the major dealers because they will be grading everything themselves. So I wonder how many cards Gerry graded to get these 2 PSA 9's, and 5 PSA 8's? By looking at the serial numbers, it would imply that these 7 cards were part of a group of about 30 cards in that lot he sent to PSA. So, perhaps now he is sitting on some PSA 7's & 6's instead of me, the individual submitter. In the past year, about 3000 1969 OPC cards have been graded by PSA iirc

  • Further to the 1969 OPC Pop Report, I noticed there are some new low series PSA 9's:

    #10 Beliveau
    #25 Dallas Smith
    #27 Hodge
    #35 Neilson
    #53 Pulford
    #73 Menard

These with the #71 Hull & #93 Watson sold on ebay last night, must be very recent submissions.
