How many people bought 2004 5 coin silver sets

DeepCoinDeepCoin Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭
I am curious about how many people bought the 5 coin silver proof set. Will you still buy the 11 coin set or are these replacing some of the 11 coin sets you bought?

I am guessing that the Mint will sell less 11 coin set this year as many people bought the 11 coin silver sets for just the quarters.

Dealers, your thoughts?

Ordered two of the SQ only silver proof sets and will likely order 2 of the 11 coin sets.

I only bought 1 set, it shipped 3 days ago. I may buy a 11 coin set, haven't decided yet.

Ordered three of the silver SQ sets. Probably won't cut back on the full sets.

    I would also add:

How does this compare with what you bought last year?

I'll get one of each. I'm a sucker for mint products. I know, I'm a fool, but they are so nice and round and shiny (intended to sound like Homer Simpson).

I bought 2 sets and I'll still buy the 11 coin set!

  • I purchased 5 and will probably do the same when the 11 piece set comes out. Purchased more this year since I am from Texas and we love our Texas quarters.

  • I bought 2 of the 5 coin silvers. I also bought 2 of the 5 coin Clads and three of the 11 coin Clads. I usually buy 5 of the regular silver sets and will do so again. I give many of them away to my grandchildren, etc.

I did not purchase the five coin proof set, and I will purchase one of the eleven coin proof sets, same as I've always done. image

I may have been wrong. I thought that the 5 coin silver set would cannibalize the sales of the 11 coin set, but from the responses it seems that may not be the case. Of course this is VERY limited anecdotal data. I will be watching the sales of the 11 coin sets closely. Any additional info from major purchasers would be appreciated.

I didn't buy the 5 coin set (neither clad nor silver) because I want the 11 coin sets.

I'm not a fan of the 5 piece sets. Usually for just a little more you can own all the coins, which is in keeping with the Proof set concept.

None. I am uninterested at that price. I will get a single 11 coin set, if I remember to.

I do not buy the quarter only offerings. They come included in the full set, so why bother?

I'll buy 'em all. With the 5 coin sets I don't have to break up an 11 coin set for my State Quarter Eagle Album.

  • What will be most important (as far as future value goes) is how the "average" SQ collector buys these. If the masses who just want the quarters buy the 5-quarter sets only, the number of full silver 11-piece sets might be lower, and therefore might be more likely to go up.

However, if the demand which exists is only for the quarters (an not the rest of the coins) then there will probably be more quarter sets made this year than in previous years when you combine the number of 5-coin and 11-coin silver sets. I guess this would tend to keep prices low.

So in conclusion, this new way of selling the quarters will either make the value of the 11 coin set go up or stay low. image

I just have an order in for 10 of the 11 coin SP sets. I'll crack out 5 for Danscos and keep the others in the mint holders.

I doubt it. The mint will merely keep selling them into 2005, or longer. You could have bought a 1999 proof SBA up until this year.

I want to thank everyone for their input. Time will tell, but from the feedback it looks like I may have been wrong about the 5 piece silver sets cannibalizing the sales of the 11 coin set.
