McArthur set...one I really wanted

I found this set of Philippines McArthur 50 centavo and 1 peso coins at a small antique shop . They are uncirculated and quite lustrious and very hard to photograph. The strike on these coins was commonly weak. I think they are a neat set . Not great photos, that's for sure.

In a small little resort town in Sandpoint Idaho there is a little antique shop with a fellow that rents space for a nice little coin shop - he specializes in world coins - it's really a fun little shop. I got the pair for $20.00.

I'll always have a soft spot for McArthur sets, Shep.

That looks like a nice one at a good price.

Great find!!! I found a whole run of Belgian 1&5 frank coins and some German occupation coins at a antique shop that came in a little bag. There must be at least 30 coins from the 40's and 50'simage
  • You got a nice price on them too. If they're as good as they look in the scan, the 50 centavo is easily worth $15, and the peso is worth maybe twice that.

Also, if you have a good loup, look at "Douglas Arthur" on the right of the bust. Sometimes you can see doubling on the 50 centavo and that will give you added value.

    Enjoy,

Very clear doubling on the Douglas - especially on the 'o' - also on the Arthur!! I will try to get a close-up picture if I can figure out how on my digital.

    Thanks!!

Eh, unfortunately, yes. PCSing, travel, school, etc all making it too hard to buy coins lately image But this will be only a temporary setback! imageimage
  • I picked up the 50 centavo MacArthur a month or two ago. Neat coin.

I want to find some of the paper currency with Washington on it.

I didn't get a chance to stop by there again on my way out of town yesterday, but I did get a 2002 Cayman Islands cent in change at the Conoco. image
I had to meet someone down in CDA, so I took the opportunity to check out the (relatively) new shop there, Coinuts. They didn't have much in the way of world coins, though. I rescued a nice 47 maple leaf 5 cents from the junk box and this Swaziland coin. If anyone needs it for a country, tree theme, or F.A.O. set, I'll be happy to send it to them...

I don't know. It's not much in the Krause, but could be one of those hard to find cheap coins.

Hey, I got a Mississippi quarter in change that has some green crud on it. Could just be boogies, though. image

    Wow - That is interesting!!

I've never seen that Swaziland before, neat! I was hoping that the new shop would have more world coins, oh well.
    Take care Steve.

There was just one binder of mostly common Canadian, at so-so prices, and the 25c junk box.
