1976 TOPPS HOCKEY PSA GRADED 8, 9 SET W/ PSA 10s!!!
the set is missing only 9 cards, all commons. the breakdown-
3 PSA 10's
132 PSA 9's
100 PSA 8's
the rest are either lower graded, or have qualifiers
either way, this is a huge set in the hockey hobby. not in terms of rarity or condition sensitivity (Topps is second fiddle to OPC), but the fact that to my knowledge, this is only the second almost fully graded hockey set to show up on ebay. the other one was a high grade '51 Parkie set that didn't sell.
it's at $236.50 with a few days to go, and odds are it won't crack $600. that is an incredible value for 250 graded cards.

I believe DSL is testing the waters on this one.
As you correctly said, there is MEGA vending available for this year.
The fact is that no one can afford to test the waters the way
DSL can because of their ability.
A PSA 10/9/8 set sold on mastro for over 6k from 1972.
I know for a fact that a friend of mine can assemble
close to 100 mint sets from vending from that year.
Four of my 1972 topps Bobby Orr PSA 10's came from that bunch.
I just don't have the time to go through 263 cards with a magnifier
like DSL can I guess.
Anyway, if DSL has success with this, I'm sure the vending owners
will take notice. Your guess is a good one. I think it will hit
900.00 That's not a lot of cash for PSA set collectors.
However, who wants this set ? That is the question.
Does anyone want mid-70's topps sets ?
Unfortunately there are a few bad grades that will keep
the price down on this one. Having said that, I won't be
suprised if it goes over 1k.
Hey, is Texas going to take it all in Omaha ?
Is there anything bigger than baseball at UT ?
Does football draw more attention than baseball ?
does your friend still have vending boxes from '72?
does he sell the sets you refer to or are you just making a point?
thanks

I agree that Topps is second fiddle to OPC in terms of rarity or condition, although I think somewhat blown out of proportion. First, grading companies take into consideration the wire-cut OPC cards with rough edges--for the most part OPC cards are graded a little bit differently then their Topps counterparts. I have seen many a PSA/SGC/GAI 9 rough-edged cards. Second, my experience with collecting early 60s and 70s topps cards is that the Topps issues are difficult to obtain as well. I have seen many examples of high-grade OPC cards as well as Topps.
I think eventually Topps cards will "get the due" as far as being a difficult, high-grade set to obtain as well.
I admit I am being a little biased due to the fact that I only collect Topps, not OPC...Must be the American in me I guess.

Hockey set! Always looking to buy, trade or upgrade 1966 Topps to 1969 OPC.
DSL should send you a nice Christmas present.
If not for your bid, it would have ended at 800.00
My first prediction was 900.00, but I said it could
go over 1k because of people who saw the grading fees alone.
Fact of the matter is that at 900.00, no one except DSL
has the ability to sell a set like that.
Let's take our hats off to DSL for the ability to do that.
If you consider the 9's at $9 a card and the 10's at $30 a card, that's like getting 100 8's as a throw in.
