I was just watching an episode of "Who want's to be a millionaire?", and sure enough, the millionaire question was nuministic related.
The question was:
"Which one of these denomations were the first to issue "In god we trust", on coins?"
A: Two-cent piece
B: Quarter
C: Nickel
$5 bill
See if you can answer it!

Oh, that's right. I forgot which choices they gave so I just added an extra one. Do you think the average person could answer this question?

I doubt the average person has ever heard of choice A
<< <i>2-cent piece, obviouslly. So did the guy win the million dollars? What was his final answer? >>
He was leaning towards the 2 cent piece, but he walked with 500K.

Welp, for someone for who doesn't have any idea about coinage except to spend it, wouldn't know the answer to the question. Now, the person has, after taxes, mucho dollars and some change to spend.
When I was a teenager, I use to watch some of the game shows and occassionally a numismatic question would come up. I would get excited and jump up and down. Unfortuanately, I only knew the answer occassionally......

That same question was asked a while back, but I thought it was only at the 64K 0r 125K level.

<< <i>Its the two cent coin, was not put on paper money until 1957 and disappeared on the nickel I think from 1866-1938 >>
Disappeared from the nickel in 1883 (but i wasn't required to appear) was illegally left off the nickel 1913-1938. (By that time is WAS required to appear. The law that restored the motto to the eagle and double eagle in 1908 also required the motto to appear on all coinson which it had previously appeared. Since it had been on the nickel from 1866 to 1883 it would have been required to have appeared on the buffalo nickel as well.)

No, Did the person get it right?
<< <i>They reuse questions on the show or were you watching a rerun?

It was probably a re-run, although I never seen this one espisode before. It was definitely for the million bucks.
<< <i>GCL, very nice thread. Thanks for posting it.

No problem, your welcome. This was the first time I ever saw a nuministic(I wish I could spell that word)related question on millionaire. I watch the show occassionally. I have Direct TV, which is like cable, so we get GSN, it's a big game show. My favorite game show is probably Boiling Points, which is on MTV occasionally. It's a game where the staff of the gameshow do the most annoying things to average people on the streets, and if they can take it for a certain period of time, they get 100 dollars in cash. They use hidden cameras, and also a hidden camera person, (although I don't know how the heck they could hide a person that well), after they win they reveal the hidden cameras to the person.
I learned the answer from reading coin books, and once I learned that it was the first US coin to issue "In god we trust" I bought a two cent piece.

He was thinking the correct answer was the two cent piece, but he was at 500K with no lifelines, and he wasn't too sure about it. So he walked away and kept the 500K. Not often do you see people on the millionaire even get to the 1mil. level, and less often it is a coin related question.
