  • There is no picture of the whole slab. I don't think it would grade above PO-01. Maybe a bad seller.

Pathetic. Even ACG may have only went with G8

I don't like or trust SEGS, but that HAS to be a data entry problem where they meant to type "1".
    I collect circulated U.S. silver

Looks like one of those steel holes that's been punched out of electrical outlet casing. Except it sat outside in the elements for the last 10 years.

Still have Ronnie Milsap and Stevie Wonder image

Pontiac, I agree. I thought I saw a "2" also. Wouldn't that be something if it was really an 1802? image

I see the 3, and the chain is clearly visible, too. (Guess you have to be a detectorist to be used to ID'ing stuff like this- my first dug large cent was a Draped Bust that looks about like that, LOL).

Without the heavy corrosion, and with the coin in hand to examine a little more closely, I think it could very well have VG details, aside from the pitting, of course. This is in line with SEGS' policy of using a normal grade and then noting the problem (albeit a severe problem in this case), rather than net-grading. If they net graded it, it would almost certainly be a PO01.

SEGS would have been my first pick for submitting such a coin, if I had found it.

Edit to add: the truly ridiculous thing here is not the SEGS label, but the starting price on that auction. The seller is either on uppers, or one of the world's greatest optimists.

You guys are too tough. Had this coin never circulated nor have any corrosion, it would be at least an MS60.

That's one mossy looking coin. I wonder if some type of moss killer needs to be applied, so that the whole thing doesn't become a little fuzzy green disc of moss colored stuff... image
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !

  • With a generous net grade of PO-1 (on a good day).....that "thing" is only worth $150. The seller is an EAC member, so his starting price must be a typo.

SEGS is far far better than that. Methinks it's a hype. But, gee, the price is realistic, isn't it?image

Looks to me to be some type of shim for something under your kitchen sink. These guys will grade anything.
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
