Many thanks to Mark Ironside (mostlyhockey)

Mark hooked me up with a 1968 OPC Puck Sticker Plante PSA 8 (a card i've been looking for for awhile now) unexpectedly. just wanted to give him some public praise. it's guys like him that make me glad to be a part of this hobby.

  • Mark, if you have a Sawchuk from that OPC Puck Stickers set, I'll give it a good home! Raydbonz@aol.com

That's awesome, Will. Mark actually told me about his plans before sending the card. The hobby gods really need to start smiling upon him because he's been tremendously helpful to virtual strangers.

This hobby is full of good guys.
Actually, this world is full of them, but we only hear and read
    about the bad ones.
Most good deeds go unnoticed, but it's nice goodriddance
to make a point about a guy sending you a card that you need.

What goes around comes around in this hobby.
I've seen guys who rip others off have disasters happen to them.
I've seen many good guys in this hobby flourish more and more with their collections.

    Nice gesture mostly*hockeyimage

    RayDBonz,

I'm sure you've seen that their is a 69 Sawchuck on ebay right now.
    I think it's PSA 9.
  • sorry, wish i had the sawchuk, but never had one. i have a few others in the set if you need any though, thanks, mark.
  • zsz70

I'm calculating the distance and windage on the PSA 9 Sawchuk now. One Shot, One Kill & all that stuff.

  • Bill,

be careful on that Sawchuk. every PSA 9 i've seen in the last few years sells in the $75-$90 range. you might end up getting it for far less than you expect, as it's by far his easiest card to find in 9
  • Thanks Will.

Bunch of nice Plantes out there now too! And a handfull of PSA 9 1980 OPC's. You must be going nuts!

    Bill
  • ton of nice Plantes, far from a ton of available cash. i would love to pick up the 1959 PSA 8 and the 1957 PSA 7, but it would mean that i wouldn't be eating for a few months

    Will,

I have an account with Omaha Steaks.
Go ahead and buy the Plantes.
I'll ship you the steaks. They taste much
    better than cardboard.

There are 1980 psa 9's on ebay ?
Who is it , DSL or FSC ?
I'll have to go check now.

Shhhhhh !!!! Don't tell anyone that they'll be hot one day.
    Keep it among us.

  • Marc,

DSL has about 15 or so 9's listed. only a few spark my interest, so i doubt i'll be bidding heavily. you are correct about the potential of high grade 1980 OPC. there are actually several sets that could explode-

1979 OPC- only 6 different cards have been graded 9, 5 of which i have owned at one point or another (and i'll own a Gretzky when i stumble across $5k). there is a ton of money to be made if you can pull 9's from submissions. the Dryden, Howe, and Hull 9's have all sold for over $125 apiece. i have a standing offer to purchase 9's of the minor rookies (Linseman, Simmer, Melrose, et al) for up to $125 apiece. note to everyone- if you have any raw 79's, submit them please. you will make a killing
1980 OPC- tough issue due to centering, diamond cuts, and rough cuts. some of the rookies that book for $3 raw would bring as much as $50 each in 9 when they show up
1981 OPC- possibly the most brutal OPC issue of the '80s
1985 OPC- god awful diamond cutting. i haven't seen a PSA 9 yet with perfect centering all around

    Will,

I would put 81 and 85 opc as attractive sets, but not hard to find in PSA 9.
85-86 is probably the easiest IMO. Lots of nice vending stuff out there.

81-82 has nice vending available too. Lots of potential 9's sitting raw out
    there IMO.

    I would agree with 79-80 and 80-81.

My only suggestion is that I don't see the floodgates opening on people
wanting to build these sets in PSA. The kids who love these sets are
still in college or just starting their careers. They may not return to the
    hobby for another 10-15 years.

I would love to pick these up for 8.00 a common now.
But I don't like to sit on things that long unless I'm collecting it.

I would stick with the 79-80 and 80-81 for now.
I think the pops will explode in 81-82s and 85-86s in the future.
Just a lot of it out there.

    Oh, RayDBonz
A friend of mine has about 100 Sawchuck puck stickers in his possession.
I'll take a look when I go over. Problem is that they've stuck together over
the years. The glue and ocean air didn't make a nice mix.
I'll give them a look when I visit him this summer.

  • Thanks Marc!! If he's got one that would grade an 8 it would be great. Talk about cornering the market!

    Bill
  • Dang I thought I could fly under the radar longer with these sets for 80-81 and 85-86. I guess I am going to have to share with the masses.

    YUCK!!!!
  • bill, might have a line on a sawchuk 8 puck, will check it, mark.
