Let's clean up the boards!

  • I didn't expect everyone to be for the ban on anonymous posting - I would guess half the folks on here probably have more than 1 username. I can't imagine them being for this. Maybe the boards will be more "boring" without all of the personal slams and attacks, but I would be willing to risk that.

Joe Orlando - is this a possibility???

On the other hand I would hate to find out that I'm one of only 6 real board members.image

<< <i>I have not been here long and my knowledge level on "cards" is way below that of other board members - especially on modern and anything ex-baseball/basketball. But that is why I joined and participate - to learn, and you are allowed to have a little fun along the way. There are too many "rules" that have to be adhered to in other areas of our lives, and I don't think adding new rules or requirements here will necessarily make this a better place to visit.

There are some jerks here, but I have learned that you can run them off if you want to. This is a democratic board in that respect. But it requires participation to meet that end. So...participate and don't complain that you do not participate because something is happening that you don't like that you could have an impact on if you had indeed participated.

Skip threads that are of no interest. If threads get "hijacked", I think it is only because the group in many instances is trying to tell somebody something about the value of the validity of the topic or thread. If you feel strongly enough about it, start a new thread on the topic.

I don't think adding regulations and asking for big brother to moderate the information flow here any more than they currently do is of any benefit. Regards. >>

    Gotta agree...

Get rid of the cowards who are afraid to back up their words with a name and I'll bet that you get less outlandish ridiculousness.

Strong opinions aren't a problem until you start running down someone else on the board.

And bottom line - this board IS MORE BORING than it was several years ago - how can it not be? Its like a kids toy after 3 years - nothing new about it for those of us that have been here. We have to expect threads to be rehashed for the people who haven't seen them yet. But, ya know what??? I don't mind rereading those threads AND sometimes getting some new perspectives on things or getting new insight into a changing market.

And as far as how major issues are handled by PSA management on the board - definitely not the company's strong point. Issues like WIWAG, the Rose Rookie, grading inconsistency, etc. should be handled by a "press secretary" of some sort - give us informed "relatively meaty" information before or as rumors start to show up on the boards. Have someone take the time to answer some (not all) of the questions that arise on the board and help prove that our concerns are being listened to and being taken seriously. Take responsibility when it should be taken and don't respond by simply deleting threads. Sure - some threads are and will always be innapropriate - but delete the thread and leave a new thread in its place explaining the reason that it was deleted.

    Just my 2 cents...

    Wayne,

There was reportedly a comment that the board members accounted for less than 1% of PSA's business.

    Wayne,

That was Joe O's response to the forum at one point - we (CU forum members) are only a 1% representation of the PSA consumer base.

Thanks for the link to the 1% thread

Its kind of ironic you asked what the 1% was . After rereading that thread you had the best reply in the whole thread to Joe's comment

I am gonna throw this out there but I could be wrong....

Do ya think maybe people are a bit too sensitive around here???? Its a metrosexuals paradise.

PS: Bravo too the very few left that stand up for proper moral convictions. The truth hurts sometimes but it must be said.

In the two plus years I've been here, a constant theme, at any point in time, has been :

"I wish things were like they used to be,
because these boards used to be a lot better back in the good ole days of a couple of months ago."

Yikes ! ... at this rate of decline, the boards will be completely unreadable in just a matter of days ... image

I would not go there if I were you. I'm sure there's lots of metrophobes and moderate-extremists frothing at the mouth right now because of your comment.

There are two types of people in the world that I can't stand.

    1. Those that are intolerant to other people's culture
    2. The Dutch

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago (days, maybe? I dunno, I'm too old to count) - I was finding myself getting rather agitated over what appeared to me to be interesting threads turning into slugfests. I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that I was the only one concerned with this and that perhaps I would be better off staying away from the boards. You guys pretty much patted me on the back and assured me that I wasn't alone and that I could make...hold on...wait a minute...here it comes...MY OWN CHOICES!!!

Astounding. I did so, and stayed away from thread titles that didn't seem to relate directly to cards. However, this morning, I read this thread and a few others and have found a brotherhood of collectors intent on maintaining a viable message board. Those intentions no doubt vary, as do the agenda we each bring to the boards, but I wanted to chime in, as a newcomer, and post that I am extremely grateful for the enlightened comraderie of many of you on these boards. I can't name names because there are too many and I wouldn't want to slight anyone I inadvertantly left off the list, but I do want to thank all of you who share your strength, hope and experience on this forum.

On the future of the boards: again, I'm a newcomer; I really don't know nuthun....but I'm a laissez faire kind of guy (boy, that's an open door...) - if this phrase or that ideological stance or anything is to be unilaterally censored, I think it will inhibit the healthy exchange of ideas. At the risk of overly citing my ideology of choice, I am taking what I like and leaving the rest, and I would hope any of us would do the same.

    Peace.image

Rugby is a tough game, but it doesn't get any tougher when you're playing in wooden shoes.

I used to live in Nederland, but got into Dutch with the 1%'ers up there, so I had to move back down the canyon........wooden shoes and all.

But alas, it was a better fate than getting gerfuchtked by unarmed racist dwarf rugby players.

    edited to re-spell gerfuchtked

  • Sixdart and Doncherry,

I had a mental lapse. I thought the 1% was something referenced earlier in the thread. You have to take into account that I'm a Hoosier.
