What is your dream set?

Everyone,
suppose you had unlimited financial resources. Obviously, everyone would like to be the guy to put together the second complete sets of coins, so that aside, what set would you build with the money. Me-I would build a complete set of double eagles 1850-1933 (1849 if I can find a greedy smithsonian official or congressman) in top grade, and then have Capitol Plastics build me a custom holder for them all. That'd be a huge holder, but I didn't say logic need apply.
Best,
BR

My dream set would be the proof Kennedy short set as follows:

    1964 proof Kennedy in PR70DCAM
1964 proof Accented Hair Kennedy in PR69DCAM
    1965 SMS Kennedy in MS68DCAM
    1966 SMS Kennedy in MS68DCAM
    1967 SMS Kennedy in MS69DCAM
    1968-S Kennedy in PR70DCAM
    1969-S Kennedy in PR70DCAM
    1970-S Kennedy in PR70DCAM

All the money in the world wouldn't buy it, though, since five of the coins have not yet been graded at the levels listed.

My dream set, which I am very close to completing, would be a complete liberty seated dollar set [ie: Gobrecht, Seated and Trade dollars] from 1836 to 1885. Each would be of outstanding quality and eye appeal.

The only other set out there that tempts me is the Bust Dollars, but Cardinal and others have done mighty fine jobs already on that.

Complete set of buisness strike cents: 1792-date. I'd want the large cents in XF or better, the indians in MS63 or better, and the lincolns in MS65/66/67 brown from 1909-1929 and straight 67RD from 1930-1958.

As it stands, I have a similar lifetime goal:
    Lincolns:
1934-1958 Straight PCGS MS66RD or better (accomplished)
1930-1933 PCGS or NGC MS65RD or better (in the works, two away... guess which two)
1909-1929 PCGS or NGC MS64/65/66 Brown (in the works, ten away from MS, need a few in higher grades... and a few others need to be "upgraded" to brown)

    Indians/Flying eagles
I havent totally decided what I want to do here, but the absolute lowest grade I'd except would be XF45. I'll probably go for MS63BN or better. I probably wont be as color specific with this set.

    Large cents:
I'd want the later dates in MS64BN or better. I'd take the keys in what ever I could find/afford. On the early ones, I'd want most to be VG or better... preferably VF or better.

An uncirculated US Type Set would do just fine, but with a twist. Key dates for each type. 1861-D gold dollar. 1848 Cal quarter eagle. I don't need the super rare ones (like an 1885 Trade dollar or 1933 $20) but nicer key dates would be cool.

I dream of a complete set of Barber dimes, quarters, and halves in uncleaned AU and proofs in 65 or better. I'm getting close on the dimes (1894-S not necessary), but will have to keep dreaming on the quarters and proofs.

If my dream set seems too cheap or mundane, I would also accept a winning registry set of U.S. type coins (complete, with all those pesky 18th century issues and gold) or any of the famous sets mentioned above by others. I think I have a hard time dreaming about money not being an object, though.

A complete set of dimes in the highest grades possible with the resources left over in case another should come out of the wood work and grade higher than a example that is already purchased. This includes the 94S also.

The 20S in the Joshua Set would be had one way or the other. Very Stupid Money would be paid for this coin.

    Color would be nice also.

  • I with the type set crowd. Considering I'm missing coins like a chain cent, a Gobrecht dollar, a Stella, early gold, a high relief Saint and a Half Disme I think I would be happy to forgo the key date part image

A complete set of Flowing Hair and Draped Bust half dollars 1794-1807 by Overton variety. I will never complete this set, no person has ever completed the set, but there are a lot of satisfying accomplishments along the way - overdates, errors, cool die states. Only a handful of collectors are even 50% complete. A very underrated series of some truly rare coins.

IF I had unlimited funds, I would become fast friends with TDN, and would also become his personal physician, gratis, of course, then patiently wait until he tired of his Seated Dollars, Gobrechts, and Trade Dollars, and buy the completed collections from him.

I'd like to do the Harry X. Boozel thing to the nth degree and get all varieties and mintmarks from 1873.
