A good way to make some money without cutting up the jersey. Since they are 1/1 anyways, just remove the tag on them and keep the jersey. People love patches and tags.
The seller has relisted the Babe Ruth 1/1 card for a third time. This time the auction is a private auction with no reserve though. The auction is currently up to $8,100 with about 9.25 days to go.

You see the guy on eBay, goes by the nick jdsbullpen who is printing out FAKE Timeless Treasures and posting them? Makes it look just like the real thing, but adds the word Replica to the auction. He put up the Ruth one and got bids upto $6100 for something he printed out on his laser printer. I was reading the whole story on the Beckett forums. He has a Lou Gerhig FAKE one up now too, and has bids on it too.
Sorry, been a while since I've posted a link and remember how.

From discussions on the Beckett boards and my own knowledge of the auctions of the real Babe Ruth 1/1 card, the high bidder on the fake Babe Ruth 1/1 knew it was a fake. He was actually a serious bidder on the real card, so this seems to make sense.
Story is that he is a lawyer from PA who just wanted to make sure that no one else won the auction. He then immediately let the seller know that he had no intention of paying for the item because of the scam and began various steps with eBay related to the auction.

He actually left negative feedback because he couldn't finish the scam. Wow.

As such, any logos and such must appear without the permission of, say, MLB, the NYY, Donruss - etc.
Isn't there some kind of law against that, and wouldn't it be appropriate for someone to notify the owners of those logos so that they can look into dealing with someone who reproduced their logos for personal profit?
Just a thought. I'm far from being a legal expert, but it seems to me that if some chucklehead really is printing out his own "replicas," complete with all the identifying marks, he's putting himself in a pretty actionable position...
Of course, if this is a licensed replica, I'm sure it's a moot point.
I was telling my wife about this fake auctions, and that's one thing she said. Isn't that copyrighted material and it's just like taking a CD, make a copy and sell it for a hugh profit. Wonder if the feds should look into this guy since he might be selling these at other places besides eBay.
I received confirmation from Donruss today that the "replica", "promo" and "reprint" Babe Ruth 1/1 cards were not created by them for any reason. They are being created by someone else.
In fact, there are currently 2 of these fake cards on eBay. Donruss is aware of both auctions.

Just read my weeks SCD, (yes one man in America still subscribes) and found that a Bryant/Lebron jersey logo card from Upper Deck 'Esquisite' sold on eBay for $67k - I'm sure that's old news to y'all.
1. The economy is definitely booming 2. Interest rates will have to rise - the Fed has serious concern about inflation in modern card prices. 3. If Lebron and Kobes jersey logo is worth $67k to someone then the Babe is worth ? 4. The 2010 Beckett annual baseball card price guide will be issued on a set of 35 DVDs and if printed would deforest my home state of Virginia just to list the numebr of cards issued since 2000. 5. Thank God hockey collectors don't have to put up with this nonsense (anybody seen a Topps C55 Lemieux relic card?)
C56, V252, V128-1 sets Hall of Famers from all 4 sports
So, in addition to selling a reprint Babe Ruth 1/1 card, the same seller is advertising an autograph session using eBay. Click here to see it. The description says that it's not an auction. So, why is it on eBay??
Anway, I also e-mailed him about the reprint card asking where he got it, etc. This is the response I got: "it's a special card that was given to only a few of the biggest Donruss dealers in the country. I have only seen 2 of these ever." Yep, the other one was the one bid up to $6100 and never paid for by the PA attorney.
So, both of these sellers are stating that the cards were given to Donruss dealers, but Donruss confirmed directly to me that they were not involved in this.
Sometimes you wonder if these guys are just in the dark as well or really are trying to rip someone off...
