were these crack outs? I am surprised the ksa 10 wasn't trimmed also, don't know what was in your submission but your grader must have been asleep at the wheel.
  • yes, all were sent cracked out of the holder.

From what I've heard, KSA is pretty decent when it comes to hockey cards. I'm pretty sure they're based in Canada and hockey cars are their bread and butter. I wouldn't trust a baseball card in one of their holders, but from this it seems like they know what they are doing.

    mudflap...

I rolled the dice on a KSA 8 1968 OPC Ryan RC. I cracked it and it crossed to a PSA 7! So you can catch lighning in a bottle! I won't deny that I wasn't sweating every minute that card was at PSA though! LOL!
  • Here is some background to KSA

Initially it was very difficult for Canadians to submit to PSA because of customs charges etc. So early on alot of very nice high end cards were submitted to KSA (mostly hockey of course) hence noone should be shocked that you can have a KSA 10 cross to a PSA on occasion. Prior to him sending most of his sheet cuts to BGS Jason Martin used KSA exclusively so yes there are alot of sheet cuts in KSA holders as well.

So if you know your cards you can find some buys in KSA holders but its a gamble

  • Hockeybonkers99,

I'll bet the BGS that didn't cross might have come from an uncut sheet. They get tagged with the "Evid Trim" death notice.

Well said, Randy! Very nice results, most of my KSA crossovers come back 1 or 2 grades lower. You did really well!

KSA is outstanding with grading Hockey cards

I just submitted a KSA 5 bobby orr rookie card that came back as a GAI 5.5. This is one time when I didn't crack out the card.

OPC Ron Francis Rookie card was a KSA 9...cracked it out and came back as a GAI 9.

Plus many more good experiences with them...Rick at KSA is topnotch.

grillo , isn't that the orr with the wrinkle? all I know is that the cards I have from them have been sheet cuts which sucks so I will not recommend them if there is that possibility much like bgs.

PackCollector...good question....I don't know if we are talking about the same card, but yes, my Orr card has a slight 1/4" wrinkle close to the right border, middle of card. GAI grading standards differentiate between a crease and a wrinkle. A slight wrinkle is allowed on a GAI 5 according to their grading standards. A crease will downgrade the card significantly. I have posed this question to PSA, since PSA does not define "wrinkle" anywhere in their grading standards. My reply was to just submit the Orr card for review/crossover (which I am not going to do). However, I had a PSA 5 Clemente rookie that had a slight wrinkle as well--it crossed to a GAI 5. The Orr card is near-mint otherwise. Really a beautiful looking card for the grade IMO.

I think we are talking about hte one you picked up on ebay a little while back. It looked real good but with the wrinkle, I was bidding but I think it went a little more than I wanted. I have a bvg 6 that is going out tomorrow for crossover. very nice card with real nice centering. slight non distracting corner wear , I expect it to cross easily. I picked it up cheap on a buy it now on ebay.
  • Although it is newer I cracked a 1985 KSA 9 Kirk Muller rookie and it came back a PSA 9. This is my first experience doing this with KSA, muh better result that the BGS 9 1985 Thomas Sandstrom that came back Trimmed. Oh well can't win them all.

  • I have had pretty good success with KSA in the past as well, and to a prior reply on the BGS card, I measured and yes, it was slighly larger than the usual size........ sheet cut.

all you ksa guys , send me an offer, image
  • lol packcollector

You were told that was a sheet cut before you bought it right ? If im not mistaken that card came from the mecca of OPC sheet cuts Seth ?

The question of whether or not sheet-cut cards should be graded is subjective IMO. I personally don't have a problem with it. Just because PSA doesn't grade sheet-cut cards means it is a bad practice. I just wish companies like Beckett and KSA would indicate they do in fact graded sheet-cut cards, and place a notice on the flip the card was sheet-cut. Like an "sh" designation of something to that effect.

Collectors should know whether or not the card they are buying is sheet-cut IMO.

agreed they should be labelled sheet cut
  • Your saying that Jason Martin from Martin Sports cuts sheets of cards, has them graded at BGS and then sells them to people without saying they are sheet cut. If someone bought one and cracked it out and sent it to PSA and it come back evidence of trimming, it would be considered pretty much worthless to me imo. I've noticed that their cards graded BGS 9.5 are extremely well centered. I've opened up full cases of hockey vending cards from the 80's and have never come across this many centered and high grade cards as what they appear to have.
